unique placement problem

Post by Dogg »

I am thinking of getting a TrackIR device but I have a unique placement that I'm not sure will work well with it. I plan on using it with my digital projector in my living room. The only place I can put it is about 3 feet (92 cm) out from my eyes and between 1 and 1.5 feet (30 to 45 cm) below eye level. Will this placement work?

Also I have a few more questions...

Can the device be located off center? I can place it in front of me with no problem, I am just curious. Seems to me that the software could have a feature to be configured to compensate for it being located off to the side.

When will the TrackIR3 be available? Can I place a preorder?

Will the IR from this device affect any of my equipment that is normally controlled by an IR remote?

I don't wear hats (I hate them) and I don't use a boom mic. What sort of other solutions are there for attaching a reflector to my head? I do wear glasses, though they have thin frames and I think anything hanging off them might be annoying. Slapping a sticker on my forehead doesn't sound like a good idea. I guess I just don't think I'll like any of these solutions. I wish it didn't require a reflector!

Hi

you can have the unit off centre or even off to the side. As long as the dot faces it, there's no real difference. You still turn your head the same way. I've had mine running both above and well below eye level.

I've also had it running well at about 30", though now I have settled on about 18"

Hope this helps
