Another USB Driver Problem - Win 2000

Hi guys,

I just received the Track IR 3 Pro this week.

Like the other XP user, I have tried just about everything and cannot get Win 2000 to find the USB Driver for Track IR.

I do have X-Keys, but I completely disabled and uninstalled it before installing the Track IR software.

I followed the installation to the letter. I have also gone into the Windows Device Manager and tried to updated the USB Device Driver manually (tried using C:\WINNT\INF\NP3USB.INF).

Even though I think I have the latest installer, I also downloaded the May 3 version from the TrackIR site and tried that. I also tried everything that was said to the XP User with the same problem.

No matter what I do Windows 2000 always comes back to "Unable To Locate Driver For Device".

One other question, should there be a light or something on the Track IR device when plugging it in ? Others seemed to mention this, but I see nothing.

I know my USB ports are in working order.

Any help would be appreciated.

Follow up.....

I installed the product at my office under Windows XP. Everything worked fine as expected.

I then tried another machine at my office running Windows 2000. This installation also went just fine.

Therefore, there must be some kind of incompatibility with my home machine.

Unfortunately, I cannot use the product at work

akriesman,

What USB devices are you using on your home computer that are not installed on your works system.

If you are running X keys you may have to install the X keys software again and then un-install, but also check the registry for any remaining keys.

Please keep me updated with this.

Hi Wayne,

I have fixed the problem, but it was not easy.

It seems that the X-Keys installation causes a whole lot of trouble for TrackIR.

The basic uninstall of X-keys from the system was not enough. I had to go into the registry and remove every reference to the USB drivers for X-keys.

After rebooting, Windows 2000 sees TrackIR just fine.

I have not yet reinstalled X-keys. Hopefully it will work just fine. X-Keys is a nice addition to FS2004.
