Trackir hat clip all black

I had purchased what I think is a trackir off of eBay but when it arrived it was suspect at best to be an actual trackir5. I used it and it seemed to work ok but to be sure I had the real thing I went on Walmart s website and ordered a trackir5. It arrived and I connected it to my PC. However when I use it with the hat clip that came with it the unit does not pick up the clip unless you basically put it touching the unit. I noticed that the new clips reflectors are all black where as the other on has svwr reflectors. When I use the silver one it picks it up but I can't seem to get it "calibrated" correctly as it doesn't track my head movements like it should. Any advise would be appreciated!!!
