I'm currently shopping around for a Head Tracker + HMD setup. I've got the HMD all picked out but I'm still looking for an head tracker. The TrackIR intrigues me due to it's level of direct support in games/sims but I understand that people have had problems using it with HMD's as the speed of the view changes is too fast (understandable, given that this is not really the use the TrackIR is intended for). Is there a solution to this problem? I thought that perhaps one could simply position the TrackIR further away. What is the range of the device?

I'm very interested in beginning some dialogue on the topic so please, I encourage anyone in a similar situation as me to join in.

I have never used a HMD before but do know how the TrackIR works. Using the software, you could slow down the translation of movement from the TrackIR to your view system of choice. It will be a large trial and error effort for something like this, but it is do-able.

You could also do as you stated and move the device further back. The 'optimal' range right now is somewhere around 24 inches.
