Ok, I just got the new software, and am ready to try it out in CFS3.

However, I would like to know, what are the best steps to install?

Should i uninstall v3.12 and unplug trackIR3 or just install the new software over v3.12 with out unpluging trackir3?

Let me know

Thanks

Just run the new software, it will make you uninstall the old software first.

doesn't matter if the unit is plugged or unplugged?

it would be safest to unplug the TrackIR when upgrading from 3.x to 4.0.018 (i believe the software will prompt you on this.)

woo hoo

works like a champ in CFS3. I had to deactivate the active mode. For some reason it didn't like my light. But once I put it in reflective mode, it worked great!!!

One thing I might mention. It doesn't seem to affect a thing, but I have both versions of the software on my system now.

If I click my old icon, v3.12 starts up and works just like it used to. If I click the new icon v4 starts up and works like it seems it is supposed to.

doesn't seem that v3.12 was uninstalled at all.

The TrackIR4 software installs differently than the older versions... but it is recommended to only have Version 4 installed.

If it works, good to go. If not, you may know the reason.

Hi all,

I've downloaded and installed the new software and have a few questions/comments:-

1. The v4 install did not apparently uninstall the 3.13 software as part of the installation process. How do I uninstall the older versions? There is no uninstall exe in the 3.13 directory and Windows Add/Remove programs only shows v4.

2. I unplugged the TIR unit prior to install and it worked flawlessly when re-attached. The v4 install did not prompt me to do this though, it only advised me to stop running the software before continuing.

3. There is no view limiting entry in the registry any more - is it possible to get the full view in FB/AEP/PF that is available with mouselook?

4. I've been a TIR user for 2 years and I am very familiar with setting it up. The move to the windows setup routines is a bonus but nevertheless if was a little confusing to start. I wonder how a total 'noob' would manage? For example it was only by experimenting that I found out how to edit a profile.

5. I realise this is the beta release but the lack of a manual is a concern. I presume there will be one in the full release version?

6. The old version software would allow you to see and select which mode you were running now however it seems that the only indication you are running enhanced mode is when the blue light comes on when a game starts.

These comments are not whines but (hopefully) constructive comments from a long time fan. Its early days and I may have missed something obvious in some of the above comments but I tried to see it from a new users point of view.

As a dedicated IL2/FB/PF fan I only hope something can be done with 6DOF for us but thats another discussion for another thread

This next generation software and the Vector Expansion will revolutionise gaming and I congratulate all at Naturalpoint for their dedication and hard work. Well done and good luck for the future.

WB.

Hey WB. Here ya go...

1. It may have uninstalled version 3 but left soem files, like your profiles and such, behind. IF you go into the directory and there are very few files there (no main exe for the program) then I would sya that is the case and you can just delete what it there without fear.

2. Version 4 updates do not require the TrackIR to be unplugged. However, when you are uninstalling Version 3, you should unplug it. Good catch.

3. The developer blocked the full 6 view for enhanced mode in the IL2 series a long time ago. Mouse Emulation mode is slated for Version 4 in the future but did not make it into this release.

4. Full tutorial is available at www.virtualflightproductions.com

5. Dont know but I will continue to maintain my tutorial and will be adding a bunch of profiles from other testers soon.

6. Everything is done by the software now. Fully integrated package.

You definitly do not sound like a whiner. Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Charlie,

Some responses to your responses if I may:-

1. It doesn't appear to have uninstalled anything. I still have a full entry in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NaturalPoint\NaturalPoint\V3.13 GX. Indeed, I can even run the 3.13 software by clicking on the 3.13 exe and it runs OK. Maybe the installer needs updating? I need to know if I can just delete the relevant registry entries and the installed files within the 3.13 folder.

2. OK, thanks.

3. I think you misunderstood my question. I know the full six view (FB Specific) was blocked a while back. However, if you look behind you using the mouse to pan you will get maybe an extra 5-10 degrees of rearward visibility than you get with TIR. By setting viewlimiting = 2 in the registry under the 3.xx software you would get the same view as with the mouse panning view. Now however, I have lost that additional few degrees with V4 but there does not appear to be a corresponding entry in the registry to alleviate the problem. Fire up a QMB in FB and take a look using a Spit IX - with the mouse take a look over your right shoulder and you will see part of the left hand side of the seat back. Then look using TIR and you will only see about half of the seat back. No big deal I suppose but when your'e barrel rolling at 50' with a bandit close on your 6 it could be critical

4. Found it and thank you - very useful.

5. Roger, and thanks.

6. Maybe this needs to be highlighted then because I was concerned that maybe it wasn't working until I actually fired up FB.

For TinMan - sorry for hijacking your thread but hopefully all this will be useful to new users.

Regards to all,

WB.

PS. Charlie - is this useful for Jim Richardson and his staff? If so will he get to see it here or can you give him a nudge about some of the issues?

WB,

Please, fire back comments all day long. If it is constructive, it will only help!

Interesting on the uninstall. I didnt have that problem, but then again I uninstalled 3.x from a much earlier beta. Something might have been corrupted in the later beta versions by accident.

I see what you are saying on the 6 view. I didnt realize that the v4 software doesnt give you the same ranges as the v3 did. I hadnt noticed, but I spent more time worrying about the functionality than the view ranges. This is something NP will have to answer as I do not have the knowledge on what happened with the view controls in the software change.

The NP guys will see this thread and comment back. They are still busy as they are still ramping up for the major ship date coming up soon. Until they having more time, I am trying to do the best I can here to help.
