Motive 3.1.0 Beta 1 is now available

Motive 3.1 adds new features and enhances existing capabilities to make data capture and post-production better for everyone.

The new Trained Markersets enables users to track virtually anything they can put a marker on. Motive 3.1 supports all OptiTrack cameras (including USB cameras), 6 rigid body skeletons, and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor fusion which comes with many quality of life improvements. Simplify Continuous Calibration using data available on the Info Pane, including a new Bumped Camera feature that allows Motive to correct the position of a camera after it’s been moved. Additional changes to the 3D viewport, log pane, graphing, and more give users more power at their fingertips.

New Features & Enhancements
Notable Changes
  • USB Cameras - Added back support for all USB cameras. This includes the Flex 3, Flex 13, Slim 3U, Duo, and Trio cameras.
  • Closing when Streaming Popup - Added a popup to confirm that you wish to close Motive when streaming to prevent accidental closures.
  • 4K Monitor Support - Added better support for high DPI and 4K monitors.
  • Trained Markersets - Added the ability to train a generic markerset and track most objects that you can imagine. Some examples of this include horses, floor mats, faces, custom marker arangments, and more. Markersets may be trained multiple times to allow the creation of generic tracking assets for custom marker arrangements. Added support for these new types of assets in exporters and streaming data.
  • IMU Sensor Fusion - Added back IMU Sensor Fusion for the CinePuck and rigid bodies containing IMU data. This allows for smoother overall tracking as well as features such as tracking full 6 degrees of freedom with only a single marker. Large changes were made to the workflow for using IMUs which allow for an easier setup, more understandable instructions, and the ability to debug issues.
  • 6 Rigid Body Skeletons - Added back the ability to track 6 Rigid Body Skeletons. This also includes the ability to generically use a rigid body to drive any bone arrangement on a trained markerset or skeleton.
  • Solved Data Recorded - Brought back the functionality where solved asset joint data is recorded by default.
  • Skeleton Limit on Body License Applies to Trained Markersets - Added restrictions on the number of Trained Markersets available for use. This means a total of three skeletons and/or Trained Markersets may be used at any time.
  • Markerset Training Tools - Added tools to add or remove training data from Markersets.
  • Marker Stick Manipulation Tools - Added tools to modify asset marker sticks by adding, removing, and changing their colors. Trained Markersets also have the ability to auto-generate their marker sticks intelligently to make setup easier.
  • Joint Manipulation Tools - Added tools to modify joints for trained markersets by adding, removing, parenting, unparenting, and re-rooting joint configurations.
  • Visuals for 6RB Placements - Added active puck object models for 6RB skeleton to help with rigid body placement.
  • Align to Geometry - Added an option to align the pivot of a rigid body to the geometry offset. This enabled quickly making the pivot location consistent between Motive and an external rendering programs like Unreal or Unity.
  • Align to Rigid Body - Added the ability to align the pivot of a rigid body to the same location as another rigid body.
  • Align to Camera - Added the ability to align the pivot for a rigid body to the same location as a camera.
  • Volume Scale Tool - Added a tool for setting the volume scale based on two markers of a known length.
  • Paste Label Names - Added back the ability to paste a list into the constraints pane. This helps for quickly adding marker names for a Markerset.
  • Timecode in the Control Desk - Added an option to replace the regular time visuals in the bottom bar with timecode values instead for users that have workflows revolving around timecode.
  • 2D Mode Indication - Added the ability to right click the "Edit" button in the Control Deck to quickly switch between 2D/3D modes and quickly tell which mode you are currently using.
  • Active Devices - Added the ability to view your connected BaseStation and Active Tags in Motive (only works with firmware 2.x+).
  • Color Camera Presets - Added right click menus for color cameras in the Devices pane for a one click setup process.
  • Auto-pair IMU Devices - Added the ability to automatically detect what rigid body is associated with a particular IMU and pair them automatically.
  • Export Camera Locations - Added the ability to export all camera locations to FBX Binary.
  • Export Long Videos - Added the ability to export long video files by splitting up the recording into 2 GB chunks.
  • Telemetry Graphs - Added the ability to graph telemetry such as latency, data rate, and other system metrics.
  • Skeleton Graphs - Added the ability to graph skeleton joint data.
  • IMU Graphs - Added the ability to graph IMU data for debugging purposes.
  • Continuous Calibration Bumped Camera - Added the ability to correct the position of cameras that have been severely bumped if the camera(s) can see either active markers or anchor markers (if setup before the bump).
  • Continuous Calibration Pane - Added a Continuous Calibration diagnostic section to the Info Pane. This allows you to enable Continuous Calibration, monitor what cameras need samples, manipulate anchor markers, and view information about Continuous Calibration partitions if you are using them. Using this pane, you may now view a list of Anchor Marker, rename them, select them, and export/import them for more detailed control. This is also how you control settings around the new feature Bumped Camera.
  • IMU Debugging Pane - Added a section of the Info Pane for helping to diagnose issues and monitor the health of IMU signals.
  • 2D Projection Motive API Example - Added a Motive API example to demonstrate how to map a marker into camera 2D space and back.
  • Camera Locations Listed - Camera locations are now listed in the properties pane when selected.
  • Generic Geometry Visuals - Added the ability to apply generic geometry visuals to joints such as spheres, cubes, cylinders, and more.
  • One Button Camera Lights Turn Off - Added a single button to turn off all physical status lights on all cameras.
  • Visualize Solved Asset Data - The 3D View now shows the solve locations for assets. This means that after an asset has been solved, the exported data will exactly match what is shown in the 3D view. All assets now use the same visuals to show solved state.
  • IMU Status Visual - Added a new IMU sensor fusion status visual that describes in words the state of the sensor fusion algorithm.
  • FBX Import for Geometry - Added the ability import (.fbx) objects for "Replace Geometry" instead of just (.obj) files.
  • Custom Camera Numbers - Added the ability to assign custom camera ID numbers to cameras. This will appear both in the 3D View as well as on the number on the physical camera.
  • Ground Plane Length and Width - Split the "Grid Size" setting into two properties to control the length and width of the 3D view ground plane grid.
  • Single Joint Skeleton Modifications - Improved the 3D gizmo tool for editing skeleton definition by holding child joints in their original locations.
  • Directly Modify the Rigid Body with Geometry - Added the ability to either edit the underlying rigid body or the geometry file.
