TIR software hangs up on launch

A curious problem just started happening to me this morning with my TrackIR 4. When I launch the TIR software (v.4.0.0020.0) it ties up my CPU, taking 99% of the cycles, and hangs there for almost 4 minutes before displaying the GUI. Also, occasionally it won't quit when I press the exit button (red "x" in upper right of window) and I have to force quit it. Once this has happened however, my mouse button functionality is scambled so that the left button creates a double-click instead of a single. The only cure is a system reboot.

I thought I'd bring this up in teh hope of getting some resolution. Other than the above problems, this thing is incredible! I've got the Vector expansion, and I can't imagine flying without it now.

Hi Bill,

Lets have a look to see what may be happening here...

Do you have your computer connected directly to your mainboard or through a hub?
Does this happen even if you remove the license files?
Does this happen also in the version 3 software?
What happens if you start your TracKIR software without having your unit connected, does the system still hang?

Please let me know about the questions above.

Thanks for the reply, Wayne. To answer your questions:

1. The TrackIR unit is hooked up to a powered 4-port USB hub

2. Yes, the hang happens exactly the same if I remove the license files

3. I don't have the v.3 software loaded now, but I never had it happen in the past 6 months since I started using it.

4. If I disconnect the trackIR unit and launch, I get the same hang.

I have a little more information for you that might help to diagnose. I've been watching the task manager when I launch my TIR 4 software, and not only does it take up 99% of the cycles while it's waiting to launch the GUI, but it also take progressively more memory. It starts out around 19mb, and takes an additional 4kb approximately each 5 seconds until the program launches (usually around 4-5 minutes later). After launch I've noticed that the memory increase slows somewhat, but still increments up by 4kb at anywhere from 5-10 second intervals. Is this a textbook case of a memory leak? It seems like it might be to me.

Hi , first time posting here, and only 2 weeks experience user.
I was running corectly my tir4 software and hadware , but im experiencing the same problem than bill.
I can�t explain it beeter than he:same procesor comsumition, and about 30 min to the software start.4.20 , (and 4.21)
I was playing without any problem my fs9.1, with my vector expansion and modified language.dll.(i experince the error compativility message, but it works)
my experience happened in this way: I was running the game,and i closed the fs9 to made a breack, but ,when i restarted it, i was having the flickering efecct (camera views extension has been unistalled) ive found that its a problem related to the roll axis only.If i uncheck it, all its ok.Anyway , im not sure if the flick problem and software not running are related one to each other.
Then, i closed the tir4 software, and restarted it, it, seems not to load, but i see the process at 99%.If i wait about 30 min, it loads, but the roll axis still not work correctly, im sure its not a curve problem due that i was playing with my bell or cessna finetuning the software with good result before the problem.
I have to said that the same evening,few hours before the problem, i installed and unistalled the 3.12 software, with a problem deleting this key SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_131D&Pid_0155
But i solved the problem with a permision issue in win 2000.But this seems to be a commond problem without other consecuences.
Ive try too all the sugestions indicated to Bill, with same results.
Bill , if you get any solution , plz email it to me.
btw, the few days i ve run 6dof , has made me an
adictded , so i hope a soon solution.

ho, great, i ve finally get the software load correctly, i ve installed alll the software , and unistalled it several times, The last time, the computer give me a blue screen , and when the windows 2000 made the scan disk, it detected some invalid archives, that were deleted, after that i couldent install or uninstall the software, due the damaged files, so i deleted all manually, then, i installed normally and the software loads smooth and fast.
But i still have the roll reset problem in fs9.1, i have to unable it to play 2004 , or i see a flickering effect.pitch yaw and translations are working properly.

Check in your FS2004 modules folder to see if there is a dll in there called trackir. Just remove the dll and everything should work normally.

true, i ve deleted TrackIR-2002.dll, ithought it was a must for FS to run these dll.
i would had never deleted it.
But, i ve installed it due the installer instructions.
It's the new software getting conex with FS in a diferent way?I remember that 4.21 ask for the Modules path
Anyway, all its runnig great now, and i hope my new posts are about positives sugestions based on my experience.Iwhan to try trair for more time to made my own idea for wishlist.

Hi Wayne,

I'm back in town after a weeklong vacation. I tried uninstalling the previous version of the TrackIR software and installing the new 4.0.021, but I'm getting the same hangs on startup. It's getting a little frustrating I have to say! BTW, I don't have any modules related to TIR in my FS9/modules folder, so that's not the answer to my particular problem. Have you guys had any thoughts on what else might be ailing my setup?
