Hitting F9

Hi all,
Just got Track IR3 and it's a hoot. Apart from one time when it didn't come on after a reboot it appears to be working fine. My question is this: Would it be wise to map F9 to my j/stick for when I'm taking a shot, i.e. turning it off so I can get a completely steady aim? I ask because am not sure how the h/ware would react if doing this many times during the course of a "session". I'm an electrician by trade and I know lots of electrical equipment would not react well to this sort of treatment!
Thx in advance

Ianus have you tried a deadzone?
If you notice there is a pull down to the right, you will find it there when you are editing the profile. This should stabalise the view straight a head especially when you are about to take the shot, and hopefully save some soldering

I use to have F9 mapped to one of my cougar buttons, but I found over time that I was using it less and less, to the point that I do not bother with it and now have it mapped to something else.
Have you tried widening the dead zone in your profile?
Just pull the 2 either side of the centre down to thesame level and rebuild your curve to your likeing over then next couple of dots. If you wnat to try widening your dead zone.
If you are looking at adding a physical button to your joystick, you would need the schematic of the pin positions and voltages ect to add the button.
Ypu might be better off getting a second stick and using the buttons from that when you set the stick to device 2in the game controler window. Just use the stick movement in joy1 to controle the game (this is simular to how HOTAS work), if notheing else it saves the headache of finding the values needed.

Thx for the advice barred. Yes I think your right. Already am getting more used to hitting things. Think so different from using the hat sw just takes times to adapt, maybe I should just quit whinning On the j/stick thing I was gonna map in my FF2's profile the F9 key, don't think I would do something as drastic as soldering an extra sw on hehe. Having said that these things can get you so much it might happen one,,, jeees you should see the hat I'm wearing for my Track IR. The best thing I've found to put the dot on thus far is one of my daughters toys, sticky taped to a baseball cap lol, much to the amusement of my daughter!!
Thx

If you have the pro (I can't say about the non pro) I would get a vector, OK for the moment they do not add to FB/PF in the 6DOF but they are more stable for tracking. I have mine mounted to a Iron Maiden BB/cap
Try mounting the TIR about 30-36" and about 2" up from the dot in your normal position with the dot centred. I have found that to be about the best with the TIR3Pro's.
Give it a few weeks and then try flying
Then try the hat switch again, sheer pain

Yep maybe we should start a thread on the Ubi boards "what do you use to mount your TrackIR on" with pictures. I bet there are some contraptions out there lolol.
Already I dont think I could go back to the hat s/w, this is just so intuitive. I suppose thats no surprise really when you consider we have all been moving our heads to look at things a lot longer than we been using hat switches!!
I have my tracker at about 2-3ft from my head and about 2inches above, it seems to work fine.
Has anyone had the standard TrackIR3 and then upgraded to the pro version, can you feel any difference?

I went from TIR1 to 3Pro and the difference is like noght and day. I use to have to mount the Sensor on a 12" ruler ontop of the monitor otherwise you ended up with your facein the monitor as the range was only about 12-16" at best. Even then it was miles better than the hat switch or auto panning (padlock). I could never use padlock as I always became a very high speed lawn dart
I remember when TIR was starting to hit circulation in IL2 that if you even mentioned that you used a TIR you were accused of cheating at worse. At best you were accused of having an unfair advantage over everyone else, but it was alright for people to use the numeric input for engine and the throttle for the trim (known by some as trim on a slider) to abuse the bat wing physics of insta trim.
Now over at UBI TIR is becomming the norm I think. I have not been on the battle ground that is the UBI forums, where it is very UN-PC to actually like the games that UBI are making. It is a shame especially as UBI are the only mainstream publisher that is willing to put the money into flight sims. Hmm I wonder where they can go to whine and complain when UBI knock developement on the head?
I am glad the TIR is now working for you
