I cant take all the freezing!

Post by Travis »

I cant take all the freezing anymore.. I'm forced to not use my trackir 3. I have the latest drivers for my trackir (i've tried various other drivers) and the latest drivers for everything else on my computer. It happens in every game I use with trackir. IL2FB/AEP/PF merged, lock on, WWIIOnline, richard burns rally, msf2004 combat flight sim 2004, LFS....

It just freezes. My entire comp locks up completely and I have to hard reboot.

TrackIR 3 #25671

My comp :

Windows XP Home SP1
Intel P4 2.8c
Abit is-7
Radeon 9600 XT
512 kingston 3200 x2
DirectX 9.0c

All drivers up to date.

So what can I do? I really love TrackIR, but I just cant use it!

Travis,

Let us see if we can find what may be going wrong. I am sure that this will be something simple.

When your computer freezes, what happens if you disconect the unit , is your computer released, or does it remain frozen?

When your computer locks up what error messages are displayed if any, and what is listed in your "Event Viewer" as the reason for the lockup?

Are you using a hub?

Does this happen on all USB ports?

What other devices do you have attached to your USB system?

It stays frozen when I disconnect it.

There are no error messages, it just locks up completely.

Where is the Event Viewer?

I'm not using a hub. Its plugged directly into.

Freezes the same on all the ports (what a pain it was to test that!)

Only other device is my x45 which is plugged into my comp's front panel USB outlet.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Travis,

To find the Event Viewer....

1) Click on start
2) Then on to the Control Panel
3) If you are not in classic view you should see Performance and Maintenance give this a click
4) In this Window choose Administrative Tools.
5) You should now have an icon for the Event Viewer.

Open up your viewer and choose application. You can then scroll through to see what has been saved by Windows for the hung application, and send me a copy of what you see.

Do you have access to another system to test your unit on?

Ok these are the things that happened right before i crashed :

Type / Date / Time / Source/ Category / Event / User / Computer

Information / 1-19-2005 / 7:29:51 PM / ESENT / General / 102 / NA / TRAVIS

Information / 1-19-2005 / 7:29:51 PM / ESENT / General / 100 / NA / TRAVIS

The description for event 102 is "wuaueng.dll (3096) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine started a new instance (0)."

for 100 (which happened right before 102) : "wuauclt (3096) The database engine 5.01.2600.0000 started."

So i'm guessing this is what causes the problem?

I'll check to see what happens at the next crash.

Try turning off Windows automatic updates.

Travis,

Charvel is correct.... Both these files are Win 32 files and are concerned with Windows Update AutoUpdate Engine.

Windows Update AutoUpdate Client runs
background process which checks with Microsoft website for updates to the operating system.

This should show up on the Task Manager's processes list when it is waiting for a response, e.g. to confirm permission to download an update.

Turn off your Auto update to see if this make a difference, and please let me know.

Actually I haven't had automatic update on.. I just checked again and its still set to off. Also the program isn't in my processes window.

Travis,

The error message that you supplied was most likely not a TrackIR issue.

Was there anything else listed in the viewer?

"wuaueng.dll" and "wuauclt" are Win32 files.
Monitor the next lock up and see if the same source and event is listed.

Can you test the unit on another computer?

I'll check it out on the next crash, and no there wasn't anything else there. Yes I have another comp to test it on.

And the thing is, my game wont crash if I have my TrackIR unplugged. I tried playing for over 3 hours without a trackir (its hell I tell you! :-P) and no crashing.

So i'll play some more tomorrow after work and test it on another comp.
