Tracking jitter HTC Vive Cosmos Elite + Motive + Zed Mini

Post by 25thFloor »

We have the current setup:

- Optitrack + Motive v2.3
- HTC Vive Cosmos Elite

The Vive headset is tracked with eight passive markers, the controllers with three respectively. The HMD and controllers are tracked as rigid bodies. The pivot point is set for the HMD between the eyes as suggested in the guide.

We use the OpenVR Driver for tracking the headset and the controllers, through the latest version of SteamVR.
In the Driver we use Optitrack as the Standard Tracking system.

We noticed that while in the house room of SteamVR, the headset seems not tracked correctly. We see the rendered scene upside down, the movements inverted and there is a sort of jitter that is unbearable. But in Motive everything looks correct and the tracking is stable.
We tried to increase the camera frequency to the maximum, but nothing really change.

However, when we load our scene in Unity, everything looks correct, apart from the jitter which seems larger than before. We also noticed a consistent frame drop in Unity. We are running Unity and Motive from the same PC. We are not streaming anything to Unity, we are using optitrack just as the tracking system.

We also use a ZED Mini camera for video-passthrough. However, when we used the base stations (not optitrack) for tracking everything was fine, no jitter at all.

Any idea?
