I own an original TrackIR setup. To be honest, i never really liked it because sometimes my viewmovements were jumpy or the view would stick into a certain possition. Various software updates and trying all possible settings and profiles didn't help. It was just not good enough imho.

Now, quite a bit later, there is TrackIR3 Pro.

How much did it improve over time?
Are there users here who also used the first TrackIR and now have a 3Pro?
If yes, what's your experience and what's the difference between them?
Is it worth the upgrade?

Lange, I went from TIR1 to TIR3pro. The difference is like night and day.

My TIR1 sat on top of a 12" plastic ruler with a load of bluetac and the other end taped to the monitor (the wife refered to it as the darlek), which while looking a bit silly, worked like a charm. The unit worked well within it's limits, but as you say it could get a bit jerky and lose track and not come back untill the centre burron was poshed.

The TIR of today is totallt different. The ruler has gone, along with the jerkiness and locks at the limit of the TIR's scan angel, if you add the Vector (6DOF) into the equasion. TIR3 is smooth and the Vector really adds stability to the tracking that is passed onto the game view, even if the game does not support 6DoF.

The upgrade from TIR to TIR3 really does make a difference especially with the Pro (as in my case). For me it was totalliy worth while.
