Community Profiles

Hi Support
For a new user can you help me with adding a community profile? Does the TrackIR software "automatically see" and add a new community (ie ???.xml) profile you add to the profiles folder, or do you have to add it in as a "NEW" profile by typing in the exact community name when asked to do so. This is the latter case for me, so I am not sure if the software should have automatically detected the added new profile.

How do you then insure that you actually use the chosen profile, very often I thought that I had chosen a new profile only to find that the default profile had been selected.
Thanks

Hi Peter, I have done some digging because all you need to do is drag the profile into your C:/Naturalpoint/TIR/Profiles and at first glance it seems to have stopped working.

It has not stopped being the case of drag and drop, then open the TIR software. Let's take the Naturalpoint-Wayne-Racing (NPWR) profile as an example.

If you drop a copy of that into your profiles folder and then run the TIR software you should notice 2 Racing Profiles in the bottom profile window. One is the default (if you have not renamed it) profile and one is actually Waynes.

The naming convention inside the xml document that the profile is saved as has changed, which is why it is not a good idea to drop old profiles into newer driver software.

Now to stop the confusion

Close the TIR drivers.
Open the folder containing Waynes profile.
Right click on Wayne's profile and select edit.
At the start of the file you should see '<Profile>
<Name>Racing</Name>' (without the ' ')
This tells the software what name/type to call the profile which in this case is Racing.
Change that to Wayne's-Racing and save/close.
Restart the TIR software

Now you should notice Racing and Wayne's-Racing as selectable profiles.

Hi Barred
I am adding the xml files to the profile folder but then I cannot "see" them when I open up the TrackIR software. If this is meant to be an automatic process then I must have a corrupt install of TrackIR.

Is there a reinstallation procedure? Do we just install the latest build and then re-activate the vector expansion?
Thanks

Peter it can depend on the age of the profile as some of the older ones do not show up in the newer drivers.

Here you go for a clean re-install.

Goto Add/Remove Programs
Scroll down to NaturalPoint/TIR and remove.
Goto c:/Program Files and delete the NaturalPoint folder (keeping any profiles you might want to keep first)
Reboot (this is important because there is a posability that the driver might be loaded into RAM
Reinstall the new driver.

Try the renaming that I mentioned earlier before copying over to the profiles folder. I copied Wayne's profile from the NP site and just dropped it into the profiles folder with no problems.

Let me know how it goes and I will try some other things if it does not work.

Hi Barred
I only use FS2004 and all the *.xml files have been for the latest version of Track IR. I wikll try a reinstall in a couple of hours and let you know how it goes. Thanks for all of your help.

Hi Barred
Success after a reinstall. Somehow in the past I had managed to carry out a double install and I was putting the xml files in the old version. Silly me!! A reinstall and clean-up has fixed the problem. Many Thanks
