anyone else notice that left roll also registers as negative Y movement?

Post by sammygoodtimes »

Oddly, right roll doesn't seem to cause a noticeable change in Y position. Which makes me think that either a) the right roll factors in the shift in Y position as the arm of the trackclip pro swings up with the roll rotation, but for some reason does NOT do that (or at least not as well) for when it swings down with left roll; or b) my actual head drops a few inches when I roll it to the left. B seems hard to imagine, so I'm thinking it's a.

Anybody else notice this? Is there a way to correct for it without just disabling Y movement?

Hello sammygoodtimes,

Are you noticing this behavior using all of the profiles that come with the software, or is this happening with certain profiles only? For example, is the behavior the same with One:One vs Default?

I would also make sure that your head is positioned so that the TrackClip Pro is in line with the camera, and the camera should be on the left side of the monitor (when viewed from the front). Also note the position of the TrackClip Pro's arm: https://d1rhoi6onixddn.cloudfront.net/d ... _23.06.pdf.

Hey jillian.smythe, thanks for the reply.

When I roll my head to the left, I can see the raw values change equally in One:One just as it does in the default profile (although the effect on game value is more pronounced in the default profile, but I think that is just the default profile working as intended).

To my surprise, rolling my head rightward also reads as a slight decrease in Y, but a much more sensible amount. I had thought the tracking was simply not accounting for the obvious shift in Y position of the Pro as it rotates along with your head (albeit extended by the arm of the mount), but if that were the case then there would be some increase in Y to the right, which I am not finding. Just the opposite, in fact.

The average change in raw Y values I'm seeing when I roll my head leftward to my natural comfortable limit are around -7cm. Rolling rightward I see only a -1 to -2 change in raw Y values. Again, the change in Y with rightward roll seems intuitive and natural, but leftward is clearly much more pronounced.

As for the position of the tracking camera, I did originally have it positioned to be more centrally inline with my head, but I've since moved it to be more inline with the trackclip pro and tested again, and I'm not seeing any change, the behavior I've described here persists.

Hello sammygoodtimes,

The TrackIR software is designed to determine your position in space based on the calculated distances between the LEDs or reflectors and how those change as you move. The formula is not linear. If you open camera view, you can see how relatively small changes in the placement of the dots translates into larger movements in the view port. This video does a good job of showing how the positioning of the TrackClip Pro can affect how the software is able to translate the physical motion into movement on the screen: https://youtu.be/qdefLYQ9uYA?si=QdejGx_dHRPHuwVR&t=273.

If you are still seeing a behavior on the screen that you are not expecting, please share a video of it so we can look into it further.
