Turn off the camera, without closing the software.
Turn off the camera, without closing the software.
So as most people have pointed out on this forums, the camera gets really hot when left on. So I typically close the program after a gaming session. However, you have to have the program running before you open any game or the tracking won't initialise. Is there a way to turn the camera off while keeping the software running? Or maybe to automatically turn the camera on when a supported game is launched and turning off when it is closed?

Hi WildFyr,
I am not aware of a way to disable the camera while keeping the software running. You could, however, create a batch file that launches the TrackIR software and then launches your game. That way, you would only have to click on one icon to launch both. You may be able to make a second file to close both the game and the TrackIR software.
Kind Regards,

That batch file idea from Jillian is a decent workaround for launching, but it doesn't really solve the problem of the camera staying hot during long AFK periods in a game, right?
It would be awesome if NaturalPoint could add a feature to the software itself to toggle the camera on and off with a hotkey, or even better, an automatic setting based on game focus. Like, when the game window loses focus (you alt-tab out or minimize), the camera powers down, and when you bring the game back to the foreground, it kicks back on. That would be a game-changer for preventing overheating and unnecessary wear and tear on the camera

Hi emilyjohnson63,
We are committed to making TrackIR the best product it can be. I appreciate your suggestion that we add a feature to allow the camera to be disabled when not in use to save power, specifically in such a way that it can be re-enabled without restarting the software or the game. I will pass along this suggestion to our development team to investigate it further.
Thanks for using our product and being engaged in the product's success.
