Centering and setup - advice?

Post by AstroCat »

Ok, just got the TrackIR 3-Pro with Vector/hat yesterday and I'm using it with IL2/AEP/PF merged.

I have it around 2-3 feet from my head/hat and it's around 3 inches above my head/hat as well. I have the device tilted a little bit downward to make sure the sensors stay in range. Does this sound correct?

...and sometimes in game I have to recenter the view (have a key on my joystick for it). I seem to be noticing the pitch needing adjusting more than the yaw. Then again I could just be getting used to it all.

I've been experimenting with the Profiles to get one that feels most comfortable.

Any advice?

Thanks and it's tons of fun so far!

Distance wise sounds fine. I have found that either covering the reflector on the TrackHat or using a different cap helps. I would try moving the reflectors further to the top of your head so that they are at 90deg to the camera for the majority of the time.

As for the centering it probably is just you getting used to it, do not worry everyone had to get used to it at first

Enjoy.

I got my Vector yesterday and found out quickly that the reflector on the TrackIR hat interferes badly at certain angles causing your view the jump and jitter severely. As Barred stated the fix is easy enough. I just covered the reflector with black electrical tape. Works quite well now.

Also is there an "easy" way to get the Z axis to work as zoom in Oleg's IL2/FB/PF series. I checked some old threads but it looks complicated and time consuming. Currently I'm using Charvel's profile and it's awesome.

I found moving the trackir unit back so there is at least 34-36 inches gap from unit to your head makes it much more reliable with less glitching etc.

Slice, I have found that the distance varies from 20-36" depending on the conditions that the unit is opperating in. I use 30" with TIR3 compaired to 11" with TIR1.
