Vector Clip confusion and disappointment

HI. I just received the Track Ir hat and Vector Clip.
I was under the impression that I could just clip it on, put on my hat, turn on my Track Ir3 Pro, acctivate the Expansion and go. I found that this was not the case.
When I hit the activation button, I'm asked for the Vector serial number and the vector hash. I don't believe I have these.
All I got in the box was the Hat, the Clip (not in a package, but loose) and an invoice for $28.77 from Natural Point.
Do I have to pay even more money to get this thing up and running? What am I missing here?
Note: I bought the Hat and clip because the same package together had been out of stock for the last 4 weeks.
