Hello,
I've been using OptiTrack for a several months for my motion capture project. Although OptiTrack is much better than the web cameras that I used to use, there are still some issues as a motion capture camera. I hope you can take below into consideration when designing next version of OptiTrack. Thanks.
Better resolution of 640 x 480 pixels or larger: Current resolution of 355 x 290 is large enough to capture an area of maybe 7 ft cube. Not large enough to do anything except for small motions.
Better marker detection algorithm: When markers are close to each other they are counted as a single marker. Also there is an area about 10 pixel wide to the right of each markers that are suppressed from detection
Light and capture synchronization: With current continuous lighting, markers leave trailing image when moving at fast speed.
Capturing more markers: Current limit of 50 markers are not enough for multi person capture or face capture.
Camera synchronization: Synchronization between cameras or at least some way to tell exactly when a frame was recorded.
