Background: The TrackIR 3 Pro w/vector (SN:?)and the TrackIR 4 (SN:041092) are on two different machines and both exhibit these identical problems on any of my three machines when connected. System specs follow the problems:

Problem 1:
TrackIR 3 w/Vector and TrackIR 4: Every single day when I start my computer and try to open the TrackIR 4 software I get a no data message. Re-starting the software has no effect. I have to unplug and re-plug the USB connector in before it will track correctly EVERY DAY! (That Sux)!

Problem 2: Every time I plug the Track IR 3 w/vector or track IR 4 in I get a message stating that The device will perfom faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port.
EVERY port on my computer is 2.0 I am using no USB HUB. I have tried EVERY PORT..It is always the same. NO other USB 2.0 devices exhibit this problem except for both Track IR's.
I know already that this should have no effect on performance although it is still very misleading and irritating.
You should be able to produce drivers/software by now that does not have this problem. I have tried all versions of the software ending in the latest release and these problems persist.

Hi Polcat, there have been cases documented bt Microsoft where updating XP with the service packs has over written the USB system drivers with the old mk1 version. To resolve this use the driver from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Thanks for the response but this is NOT the problem. The USB ports are correctly detected by every other device as being 2.0. This is a Track IR issue.

Anyone else?

Hello.... I'm having the same problem, that is that every day I have to unplug and re-plug the trackir into my usb port. I'm using trackir 4. After I re-plug the trackir in the blue light starts flashing and stays connected, no matter how many times I re-start my machine. I have looked in the device manager and when its not working it does show as a device. Before I started moving it around to other usb ports and uninstalling other devices, I was just hoping you could maybe shed some light on this problem.

Keep in mind that if you have USB 2.0 but have one USB device ( keyboard, mouse or whatever) running on your PC, it will slow the entire USB bus down to 1.0. See if you have any devices that areusing the slower speed, and disconnect them to troubleshoot.

Problem solved!!

First I called Natural point and spoke to tech support. I was sent a file to check for errors in the installation. I ran it and it found two errors and fixed them. Upon reboot the TrackIR was working fine, However on a cold boot it still always failed to track.

Here is what you need to do to solve the issue:

Warning!!! It is strongly recommended that you create both a system restore point and back up of the registry before proceeding.

You do this at your own risk!

1: Unplug the TrackIR
2: Uninstall all trackIR software through Add/remove programs.
3:Restart your computer
4:Click Start> Run and type regedit. Click OK.
5: At the top of the registry editor click "edit"
Then "Find".
6: In the "Find What" field type the single word: Naturalpoint
and click "Find Next".

7:Delete each entry (left pane) containing the word Naturalpoint (right pane). Hit F3 after each deletion to move to the next entry. Some keys will produce an error when trying to delete...this is fine just click "OK" to the prompt and move past them by hitting F3 again.

8:Once you have deleted these entries reboot the machine install the latest software and plug the unit back in and wait for detection.

After performing this procedure my trackIR4 now works perfectly every time from a cold boot.

Also it is my understanding that only the port that the USB 1.1 device is plugged into is stepped down although I may be wrong. Could you post some reference for me on this please as I would find this info very usefull if true.

One thing I have noticed with the TIR4 is the power usage: 286mA
Most of my devices are anywhere form 16 - 100mA.

I wouldn't recommend polecat's method unless you are very knowledgeable in the workings of your Windows registry.

If naturalpoint could release a utility to completely remove all registry entries from previous installs that we be a great idiot proof method. The fact remains that until I did this nothing supplied here or from TS worked to solve the issue. Please look closely at this.
