TrackIR 4 has stopped working

Post by Jeff Lee »

My TrackIR 4 Pro has suddenly stopped working.

I received the unit in November 2005 (Serial no. 041242). It was working perfectly until 2 days ago. There is now just a faint red light lit on the device; no other lights are lit. The device does not show up in my Device Manager. TrackIR software does not recognize that the device is connected.

I have made no changes to my PC. All other software and hardware are functioning normally.

TrackIR software is up to date. The device is not plugged in to a hub. OS is Windows XP Pro running on a desktop PC.

Rebooting my PC does not fix the problem. A clean install of the software does not fix the problem. Editing my registry to remove NaturalPoint entries and reinstalling the software does not fix the problem. NPRegFix does not fix the problem.

Note also that my PC recognizes my TrackIR 3 without problems. Finally, a second PC fails to recognize my TrackIR 4.

This seems to me to be a hardware problem.
Please advise.

I sent a similar e-mail requesting support to NaturalPoint more than 24 hours ago and have received no response, so I am trying through your forum.

This was a great piece of hardware until 2 days ago. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I would be happy to send you a copy of setupapi.log, but a file with this name does not exist in my NaturalPoint folder, or anywhere else on my hard drive.

Perhaps you are referring to the installog.txt file?

Hi Jeff
I have just experienced the same problem! However I am not 100% PC literate and don't quite know how to rectify this issue. I too did not receive a reply from Naturalpoint and I saw your question on the forum and hope you will be able to share with me the way to rectify this problem.Thanks.Alan.

BOEINGNG,

So far Rick has indicated he thinks it may be a software conflict between an installed game (N2003) and my USB ports.

It is hard for me to understand how that explains the fact that my TrackIR 4 and N2003 happily co-existed on my PC for months without any problems, as well as the fact that none of my other PCs (which do not have N2003 installed) recognize my TrackIR 4 unit at this point either, but I am waiting for some registry patches from Rick to see if that will fix the problem.

I'll keep you posted.

I have the same problem.

The device worked fine for 1.5 month now, and it suddently stopped.

"USB Device Not Recognized"

I'll try to send my setupapi.log to this Rick and see what will be his answer.

Hi
Thanks for your e-mail.This is my second unit and I have'nt had any trouble until now which as you now seems to have sorted itself out. However I did have major issues with the screen jumping around. This was because I had Active camera installed. After disabling this TIR works really well.Have you got AC2004.It might be worth disabling it temporarily to see if it TIR works then.Just a thought? Alan.
