Cant adjust Display Options-FS9

Wow, just got the TIR 4 and love it-except the fact that once FS was started the first time I noticed that the details were way deminished in the sim (FS9). I went to change that in the Display Options tab and the sim crashes, time after time. What is the solution, and why did the software from NP change my setttings?
