Projector interference?

Post by stereostatic »

ok..I have had the TrackIR3 Pro w/ Vector for some time now and have been extremely pleased with it I am now thinking of modifying my current simulator setup to use two projectors mounted above my head to project a widescreen image onto a curved surface infront of me (more info here)

My question is,

I will have the TrackIR sittin on the cockpit in front of me reading the reflector points from my hat. Now, when I have the projectors above me, will this interfere with the tracking. I know that if I use my TrackIR now in the morning when the sun is peeking through the window behind me that it interferes with the TrackIR in a very bad way. I am assuming the projectors would do the same thing. Does, anybody know if my assumption is correct, and maybe have an ideal solution to my problem?

thanks

If the projectors are giving off heat, which i'm pretty sure they are, they can cause the unit to be behave erraticly. One thing that some customers have done is to mount the TrackIR unit behind them, then reverse the camera settings in the TrackIR software to reflect the different camera angle reletive to your head movement in game play.

ya I thought of mounting it behind me, but the seat I use sticks up past my head (racing seat) so that is not an option. I guess if I ever build it I will just have to figure it out

You could also try mounting to the side as well. As the software has a 90 & 270 degree settings as well.

Hi I have a single projector and to prevent my having to look through the tracker to the screen beyond so interfering with the view,I made a simple lightweight device that places the reflectors below my chin out of the field of vision with the tracker just above the keyboard. It works perfectly is hidden from the projector beam and I don't get a hot baseball cap head either!!.
