Deadzone-speed

How the HECK do you program the deadzone for this thing? I have TIR 1, 2.11 drivers. Am trying to slow down speed for LOMAC but no settings in the motion screen seem to have any effect. The manual walks you through setting deadzone but only for X axis. Can you not adjust settings for Y axis also? I try setting settings as per manual and save it but when I return to the motion screen to check the settings, it's back to default settings. ????? Could someone walk me through the proceedure for setting the deadzone and speed settings? The manual seems to be missing a step somehow. Thanks.

Here is how you do it Z :
Open up the Natural Point Software. On the first screen is the MAIN MENU.
First thing. Put the Mouse override delay to 0.
Move on to the HOTKEYS tab. Most of the TIR users leave the critical keys as default. (What I mean by critical keys are Center F12, Enable F9 (which is a on/off really - you will also notice the Toggle option is highlighted Blue too. Leave it that way. Thats so you can pause the TIR if things start going pear shaped in the Sim) and Motion Mode F8 (Toggles between Mouse emulation or Enhanced mode.
If the Trap Key is highlighted blue, the TIR software stops any other program from using the keys specified for Center (F12) Enable (F9) or Motion Mode (F8). In our case, it stops Lock On from overiding them. So, leave the Trap Key highlighted blue for those three.
Next Tab is the Motion one. The most confusing of the lot!
First. Make sure the EDIT MOTION TYPE: is set to TRACKIR ENHANCED (ABSOLUTE).
While you are up the top, make sure the REMEMBER MODE ON STARTUP has been highlighted too.
Right then. Off we go, in to the nitty gritty. See that Motion Presets drop down menu? Get your mouse on the drop down menu, and scroll to the bottom to select DEAD ZONE.
Next is the EDIT MOTION AXIS button. If X is highlighted that means you are about to adjust the X Axis (left to right). If that busted link (in between X and Y) is highlighted. It means you will be making adjustments to both X and Y axis (left and right - up and down) with the same values. If Y is highlighted, then its the Y axis you will adjust - up and down view.
Well, mate, we are going to adjust our left to right, and up and down seperately. Ready?
With EDIT A MOTION AXIS "X" highlighted and that SPEED slider set to 0. Deselect the GROUP EDIT POINTS.
Another slider comes in to view under SPEED. This is your edit point. If you click on the "+" key to the right of the EDIT POINT. You will see it moves up in increments of 0 2 5 10 20 30 40 50.
On the left of the MOTION setup screen is a graph (it shows the X (left to right) and the Y (up and down) axis). Gives your eyeball a visual representation of how your DEAD ZONE is coming on.
So. Starting with the Edit point at the far left of its scale (0) set the Speed to 0. Press the "+" on the EDIT POINT (it moves to 2). Once again set the SPEED slider to 0. Press the "+" on the EDIT POINT again, it moves to 5. Set the Speed slider to 0. Then the EDIT POINT to 10 etc etc.
So when you see someone post a Motion value of
"0 0 0 0 1 1 1 1" they are the speed settings they are allocating to the corresponding EDIT POINT settings of "0 2 5 10 20 30 40 50".
To do the Y AXIS just make sure X AXIS is deselected and the Y AXIS selected.
If you want both X and Y AXIS to have the same value, make sure you highlight the "busted link" in between X and Y.
Phew. Next tab is the PROFILES.
Click on "create new" and give what you have just made a name. Select the Save* tab.
To get the file in to Lomac:
Highlight your saved Profile in the PROFILES.
Highlight Lock-On:Modern Air Combat in the ASSIGN AUTOLOAD PROFILES (Select a game).
From the SELECT A PROFILE TO AUTO-LOAD drop down menu select your profile.
Minimize the Natural point window (if you leave it open, it can suck 15% of your CPU's bandwidth). Start lock on, and Bobs your Auntie your TIR profile is loaded in to Lock On ready to use.
Hope this makes it a little clearer?

Buccaneer, thanks a BUNCH for your reply there pal. Guess it's pretty much like the manual. I was just a bit confused because the manual only covered adjusting the X axis. Also, my adjustments didn't seem to be having much effect in the game. Still not sure how much of an effect they're having but Track IR is working pretty well so leave it alone I guess.
Couple more questions. If I load the profile and go into the Motian screen and start moving the edit point slider, I would think I would see the speed settings that I had entered when I previously edited the profile but it seems to be back to some sort of default value. Is this how it's supposed to work? If I set the values and save the profile, I just have to trust that my speed settings are saved? Can't really review it it seems. Also, I am using Track IR 1 with 2.11 software and drivers so don't really have a LOMAC entry in the game window so if I just select and load the LOMAC profile I edited manually, then minimize the window, it will be used in the game right?
Anyway, as I said, seems to be working well right now so leave it alone. MAN! I LOVE my Track IR pal!!! Simming a whole new experience now man. Thanks again for your post. Very informative. I appreciate it. Later pal...

Morning Z,
Pleased that I was able to explain the "How to set a dead zone up" ....
With regards to your questions. I will try to answer them as best I can - but believe me, I am no expert (I cant get my TIR 1 to work in enhanced with Lock On ..)
Q: If I load the profile and go into the Motian screen and start moving the edit point slider, I would think I would see the speed settings that I had entered when I previously edited the profile but it seems to be back to some sort of default value. Is this how it's supposed to work?
A: That is correct. And I dont know why your values are not showing. Try another profile. Save and reload to check the settings. In the PROFILES tab, there is a "SELECT A GAME TO AUTOLOAD". Try selecting your game from the drop down menu.
When you fire the TIR program up, it should autoload your settings.
Q: I am using Track IR 1 with 2.11 software and drivers so don't really have a LOMAC entry in the game window so if I just select and load the LOMAC profile I edited manually, then minimize the window, it will be used in the game right?
A: This is correct also. Unfortunately for us TIR 1 users, we do not have a visual que that the unit is tracking in ENHANCED mode (TIR 2, glows blue to let the user know Enhanced is selected).
With regards to Lock On. Apparently the values within the program itself for the TIR are very hypersensitive. Hence the reason that people are beavering away on their own profiles. A lot of the posted profiles have quite a large deadzone. X Axis at least having 0 0 0 as the first settings ! Now that you have the basics, keep at it. I dont have 2.11 drivers, just the 2.12 beta's and have tried 3.03. Still cant get my TIR to work unless the Cockpit mouse is on.
On a much lighter note. I ordered a TIR 2 yesterday! Anyway, glad to have been able to assist you. You can only go up from here!
All the best.
