like the title says, what if i don't feel like wearing the hat, will the trackir 4 still recognize the little white dots like trackir 3 pro and the previous versions? Of course you loose the 6dof features but for games that are only 2dof, can i just use the dots?

I want to preface this by saying that I'm still a new TrackIR user who's never tried out dot tracking mode..
But I've seen the setting in the drivers.. and if I use it, it stops working with the 6dof trackclip. I take that back, it actually knows how to select only the rear tracking point on the clip.
Anyway, in the main profile page in the TrackIR software, select the motion tab, and on top there'll be two button things you can select, labeled tracking type, with vector and dot options. I've confirmed that dot works with the trackclip, and I figure it's got to work with just a dot as well.

yes, for the TrackIR 3/4, you can still do the single dot tracking mode, and Nomad is correct about the settings in the profile pages.
Nomad - if you want to just do dot tracking, I would take of the vector clip, as it can confuse the TrackIR and it will try switching between the diferent reflectors.
