FS9, TrackIR, a question, and a heap of gratitude

First off, I received my TIR4Pro for Xmas and I'm hating it due to all the internal shame it's causing me: I'm completely ashamed that I was an idiot before and didn't order one sooner. I'm an avid flightsimmer and -- even though I never get bored with MS Flight Simulator -- the TIR has completely breathed new life into the whole experience. I may actually get into combat simming now since situational awareness is now at a premium. Thanks for this amazing product.

Now, for a simple question, since I know I must be missing something. The TIR works perfectly in FS9, no hiccups, no problems, and the ability to customize all the settings is freaking fantastic. However, I am unable to get the TIR to function in Spot View. The LED stays green when I go to spot mode, but the TIR simply doesn't function. I searched the forums for "spot", "external", "exterior" views, etc., but found nothing.

I must be doing something wrong or there's a setting that I undoubtedly need to change. Do I need ActiveCamera (I have it, but haven't installed it since re-installing FS9 a few months ago. I use IGFly's Walk&Follow now.) If someone could let me know, that would be great. I know a lot of people don't use the TIR in Spot View, but I just wanted to try it out in that way.

Thanks again for an ber-cool product, and thanks for reading this post.

OK, in FS9 (FS2004) the ability to use the TrackIR in spot view isn't enabled. This function, or feature, wasn't added until FSX. In other words, it only works in VC mode.

Vincent:

Hate to dig up this old thread, but I just noticed something on the NaturalPoint webpage for FS2004 support which relates to my original question.

At the link mentioned above, it says:
4. How to fix the conflict between TrackIR and Active camera 2004

First of all TrackIR generates its own head latency, which is natural. If Active Camera 2004 is installed its head latency is counteracting with TrackIRs natural head movement (one program is fighting the other).

If you use TrackIR along with Active Camera 2004 then simply disable the Active Camera 2004 head latency option - which then makes an interesting use of the view presets, which is a nice complement to TrackIR.

[color:"red"]In Spot plane view Active Camera 2004 and TrackIR are working perfectly together. The same can be said for external pilot view (easy to pan with TrackIR and walk with the number pad keys).[/color]

As I mentioned, I do own Active Camera, but had removed the ActiveCamera.dll from my FS2004 /Modules folder since I felt I would no longer need its head latency with my new TrackIR. However, upon reading the above, I re-installed ActiveCamera and, although it's not conflicting in the VC with the TrackIR, I can't seem to get it to work in Spot nor External Pilot View.

What am I doing wrong?

You have the head latency turned off?

and Active Camera active in the spot plane view?

Vincent:

Indeed, head latency is turned completely off. When you ask if Active Camera is "active in the spot plane view", what do you mean?

I am in Spot Plane view. How do I know AC is active in that view?

A setting within the Active Camera control panel?

A setting within the Active Camera control panel?
I don't think we're on the same page here. You see, in Flight Simulator 2004, Active Camera is "active" so long as its DLL file resides in the /Modules subfolder of the root FS9 folder. There isn't any additional checkbox or radio button to "enable" it.

Various aspects of ActiveCamera can be disabled, of course, such as head latency, wind sounds, etc. But the module itself is "active" continuously.

Anyone know how to get this to work? Further testing reveals nothing.

Thanks again for reading.
