Flaky at startup...sometimes

Hi guys. Been awhile.
I recently built a new Core2duo rig and everything went flawlessly. However, about half the time, when I start my TIR3 Pro (using driver ver4.1 build 28 I think) The software will start but I get some strange anomolies in my tracking views and the unit doesn't respond at all. If I turn the unit off and unplug it from the USB port and plug it right back in all is fine.
The rest of the time it works fine initially.
My profiles are good and the unit works perfectly once started, but this would be nice to get fixed.
I know I could try doing a few things like updating the software etc,... but I was wondering if this was a common issue and if so, what is the common fix?
Thanks,
TB

Not something I see everyday....
What OS are you running?
Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?
Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?
Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?
In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Sorry for the delayed response but here goes:
I'm using WinXP Pro SP2 and have my TIR plugged into one of the main USB slots in the back of my machine. I DO have a hub but use it for my other peripherals.
I went into device manager and checked the USB controllers properties but see no power management tab.
Again, this isn't a deal-breaker and the device works perfectly, but normally I have to unplug and plug back in. I don't even have to wait any length of time. At this point, as soon as I'm all botted up, I just do the unplu-plug ritual and I'm o.k. It's just annoying.

Well, it sounds like just a "glitch" in the usb detecting the device - unplugging and plugging it back "fixes" the issue. So that is where I am leaning towards.
There should be a power management tab, under the properties for thw USB root hub(s) listed.
Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers, and motherboard bios installed.
I would try it on the external powered USB hub, for troubleshooting.

Hi, Thunderbolt.
I'm experiencing the exact same problem...so I'm going to try Vincent's advice. I turned off the automatic power management in all of the USB root hubs.
NOTE: You won't find any power management tabs in the properties for the devices themselves...instead, go into the list of "root" hubs that you'll see separate from your device USBs and uncheck the power management feature in those...one by one.
I'm hoping this does the trick!
