I need some advice-New to TrackIR

It's hard to ignore that reviews for TrackIR are an unending river of praise. Unfortunately, what I've experienced so far makes me want to run back to my trusty 2D cockpit. I WANT to love this thing, and I see its potential, but there are a couple of issues I have with it that are keeping me from enjoying it. I'm hoping someone can help.

I have TrackIR 4 with the TrackClip Pro, I have the latest software for everything, and I'm running FSX sp1. Here are my concerns:

1. While I'm flying and I look right to adjust the autopilot, my head, and consequently the view, move while I'm adjusting a knob. When it moves, obviously, the cursor moves off of the knob and accidentally click the knob next to it.

2. I don't think I'm imagining this, but it's possible. I was watching planes roll in to my left as I sat waiting for take-off clearance. It seemed like the view was slowing panning back to the center, but I was not moving my head!

3. Does anyone have any tips for calibration? My whole TrackIR experience really feels like I have a pair of pants on backwards and are two sizes too small. Sure, it's "cool" to look around, but it isn't practical to me yet.

4. Can you assign the F12 function to a button on the CH yoke?

Thanks very much! I really want to enjoy my experience with TrackIR as much as other people say they do.

1 - Some of our customer like to "pause the TrackIR software, while adjusting knobs and/or dials, then unpause it when done.

2 - Check the tracking screen to make sure that you only have the 3 green dots showing, nothing else. Also see below (3)

3 - Calibrating and udjusting the TrackIR can be very subjective, but has some basic steps.

a) Select the Profile that you are using in the gaming application. In this case FSX has the flight profile selected.

b) Click on the edit button, and look at the motion tab, for all the axes selected.

c) Select a axis, usually start with Yaw, and click on edit yaw

d) The default Acce3leration is set to Smooth, but try setting it to deadzone, then copy curve to All axes.

e) Close the profile, and see how it effects the game play.

4 - In the same place that you selected the Yaw axis to edit, is a tab called HotKeys, which allows you to assign the TrackIR key functions to anything you want, including your joystick.

Thanks for you help Vincent. I'll try what you've suggested tonight. I'm sure it will help, especially the pause feature!

Your advice helped a lot, especially using the dead zone. Before using that, I would get disoriented on take-off or landing, especially when I was trying to manage my yaw on the runway. When I'd use the pedals, my head would move a little bit and it would totally throw me off.

The locking feature helps, too. I still find it's easier to put the full 2d cockpit on my second screen to manage my MCP rather than looking right and locking on it, but I'm hoping it'll get easier with practice so I can just use the VC.

My goal is to go all VC so when the TH2G Digital Edition is released. I'd like to go full screen VC with no panels (except the kneeboard and GPS).

In case you're curious, I'm flying a CRJ-700 for WestWind Airlines.

Thanks for your help!
