FSX / Trackir problem (sorry!!)

Hello everyone!

Just got into the world of trackir (trackir 4 with vector) and am loving it!! FS9 is such a different game with this amazing piece of kit! FS9 worked straight away when the Trackir was loaded.

However, like a few others, I'm having a few teething problems trying to get it to work on FSX. I didnt want to start a thread, but I have followed the advice in this forum and this is where I stand at the moment:-

Installed V 4.1.30b of trackir software (the latest off of your site)

Fired up FSX and although Trackir4 recognised FSX is running (and the device has a green light on at the top, 4 red lights in the middle and two Blue at the bottom), my head movements won't shift the viewpoint.

I have made sure that the trackir is following my head correctly in the trackir setup and that I leave the trackir program open while I am using FSX . I have also checked for game and software updates in Trackir, but still no difference.

I removed the x86 folders you have mentioned and ran a "repair" with my FSX disks, but still no luck.

Then I completely uninstalled FSX and the x86 simconnect folders before re-installing fsx and sp1.

No change

I uninstalled and re-installed tracker V4.1.3b software and made sure the profile was all set up ok and everything fully updated. Again, the trackir software was recognising FSX was running, and all the lights were lit again, but none of my movement was translated into FSX.

The x86 folders are :-

x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9
created on 25/07/07 06.48

x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_x-ww_35e8ee9a
created on 25/07/07 06:48

Can you recommend anything? I'm a little confused by it! It's probably something very simple I am missing!

Thanks! Nikki

Ps...did i post this message in the right folder?

OK, if it is getting a blue LED on, when FSX is running, then the TrackIR software is talking properly with SimConnect and so you are fine there.

I think the issue maybe with the way SimConnect is talking with the rest of FSX.

What kind of firewall/anti-virus software do you have installed?

Many new Flight Simulator add-on products connect to Flight Simulator X (FSX) via the new SimConnect Application Programming Interface (API). When you run FSX with an add-on installed, some non-Microsoft firewall and antivirus applications (such as ZoneAlarm) may detect that FSX is attempting to make a network connection and display a dialog asking you to allow or block this connection.

This network connection is necessary for the add-on to connect with FSX. Its a local connection between the add-on and FSX (via a network localhost/127.0.0.1 connection), and does not involve a connection to the Internet. Be assured: FSX is not trying to send personal data about you through the Internet.

Note that Microsoft Windows Firewall will not exhibit this behavior. It will, however, alert you if an add-on is actually trying to access the Internet.

In order for your FSX add-on to work properly with FSX you MUST allow this connection to be made. If you do not allow the connection to be made, the add-on you are trying to run (and all subsequent add-ons that connect to FSX through the SimConnect API) will not work properly.

Some non-Microsoft firewall and antivirus applications will block this "localhost" connection between an add-on and FSX automatically, without any notification. In this case, you must configure the firewall or antivirus application to include both FSX and the add-on (specifically, the fsx.exe file and the add-on's .exe file, if it has one) in the list of trusted exceptions. If this is not done, the add-on will not work properly with FSX. Please refer to the documentation for your specific firewall or antivirus application for details on how to add programs to the list of trusted exceptions.

I'm using Mcaffee internet security suite.

Tried trusting the IP 127.0.0.1 and then disabled the macafee altogether but no improvement.

If I put FSX in a window so I can see what trackir is doing (on heads view) it is scanning away quite happily, but it just seems something is stopping them talking!

Having turned off Macaffe i can discount that. Would it be anything else?

(as a side note, when I double click on FSX in the profiles menu it shows the only available axis in fsx are yaw and pitch)

Turning it off, doesn't eliminate that as an issue, do to the fact that Macaffe is more than likely still running in the background, and has installed a TCP/IP "wrapper" over the TCP/IP stack, when installed.

Try uninstalling Macafee, rebooting your system, then try testing FSX with the TrackIR.

Hey Vincent. Thanks for your help. I uninstalled Mcafee and it all worked! Hurrah! Another bonus, is that the re-install of fsx and all that seem to have made it run smoother than before. Nice.

Very strange this whole business with Mcaffe causing problems as i'd granted full access to trackir and fsx and 127.0.0.1 Time to contact mcaffee and ask them why this is happening me-thinks.

Thanks again Vincent.

Having scoured the internet it looks like it is the Mcafee privacy service causing the issue for some reason not the firewall ....I'll try uninstalling that component and report back to let you know how it works out.

Failing that I'm not paying 1 a minute to talk to Mcafee to sort it out....I'll take the easy route and change to Norton virus protection which has no problems with sim connect!

Okay. Got home, tried fsx with Mcafee installed and fsx, trackir and 127.0.1 all having full acces

No luck.

Turned off mcaffee privacy service and no luck

Uninstalled just the mcafee privacy service and all working well now.

Hope that helps someone else!

Right....i'm off to do some flying now!

Nik
