Sorry for asking such a lame question, but does the mouse emulation mode for TrackIR work outside of individual games?

Could track IR be used for regular WinXP mouse movement (assuming that "clicks" could be done with keyboard or other device)?

Nope, the TrackIR is currently designed to only work within a gaming application. For use as a mouse replacement device, I would look at or SmartNAV line of products (which can also use the TrackIR software).
