Track Clip Pro build quality.

After having owned just about every incarnation of the TIR I have to say I am sorely disappointed in the build quality of the Track Clip Pro. It does in fact track excellently but it is really poorly put together. I have to regularly snap the pieces together which fall apart quite easily all the time.
These pieces include the small circular pieces at the back of the main pivot arm and the other on the secondary pivot arm. If this is not bad enough the main arm itself regularly falls off the clip part and has to be snapped back in to place and yes the secondary arm also falls off and needs to be snapped back into place as well. It will not be long until I can no longer put it back together as it is feeling weaker and weaker each time.
I have to believe that this is either a defective unit or the design is very very poor as relates to every day normal usage.
If it is the former I would like a replacement unit, if it is the latter then you should improve the design with respect to durability under normal to heavy usage IMHO.
You have to handle the clip so gently to avoid this it feels rather flimsy. This is way below average in construction as is.

When did you purchase your TrackClip Pro?
Did you purchase it directly from us?
Does it tend to "break" at a given point?

I've also owned TrackIR since it first came out, but would tend to agree with polecat. The plastic cover disk from the headset pivot, if of no great consequence, has fallen out so many times it has now gone the way of all biro pens, never to be seen again. The same pivot point is also occasionally coming adrift, as polecat says, one day I will have to get creative with some sticky tape. The other issue is the foam packing where it attaches to the head set loosing its vitality, i.e it stays compressed, with the consequence that the clip that holds it on becomes loose and the whole thing drops off ( now held in place with some tape). I'll survive but like I say, I tend to agree with polecat.

As I pointed out in my original post unfortunatley most all of them. The pivot arm connections where the main arm connects to the clip and also where the secondary arm connects to the first. Also the small circular pivot arm covers have fallen off so many times I have lost one. RMA?

Hi vincent,
I've been having these same problems with my Track Clip Pro. I purchased my TCP along with my TrackIR4 on January 29, 2007, directly from NaturalPoint. Since then, regular use has caused some minor damage which I'm worried will lead to a break.
The cap that covers the joint on the back of the LED arm has fallen out and has been lost. The LED arm pops out of this joint sometimes and hangs from the wires inside. When I first saw this I thought it was broken, but it snapped back together easily. The arm itself has begun to split around the middle LED though, and I cannot squeeze it back together without there being a gap.
One last thing: The foam on the base of the TrackClip Pro tends to hold the shape of the headset it was snapped onto. Because of this, the clip fits on looser the more you use it. When I first got the clip I had it set for a thick headset, but now I have it set for a thinner headset just to keep it from sliding around.

I had exactly the same problem with my track clip pro. The first one I tried broke after 4 weeks. See:

I have borrowed another but that is falling apart too. First they need snapping back into place, then, they just snap altogether and become useless. For the price that these things cost and the fact they are just 3 leds and a resistor in a plastic housing, I thought they would be built better. Im not bothering to get another- it will just break given time.
