Plugging in TrackIR causes Blue Screen of Death

[font:Arial]I just received my TrackIR 4 with the TrackClip Pro that was ordered from your online store.

After doing the happy dance that my new gadget had arrived, I did the installs of the software/drivers from the included CD (labeled Versuib 4.1.030 Windows 2000/XP) and did so as the Administrator. During install, I did get a warning that the drivers were "unsigned" (perhaps "uncertified"?) and continuing could be dangerous to my system and the space/time continuum. I was asked if I wish to continue or exit. Chose continue. Install proceded normally from there.

I placed the Track Clip Pro on my headset and plugged it into the USB port on the front of my box and plugged the USB headseat into the passthrough cable. No issues with that.

I then plugged the TrackIR into a powered USB hub. Got the "New Hardware, installing drivers" popup in the system tray, then after a 2 count, WHAMMO, a Blue Screen of Death. Immediately, the computer rebooted and I left the TrackIR still plugged in. Crossing both my fingers and my left inside toes provided no luck as I got the BSOD again after the desktop appeared and Vista started connecting to the USB devices.

I unplugged the TrackIR and got a normal reboot.

"Drivers must be 'fouled'", I thought and uninstalled the software, downloaded the version listed on the support page, ran as admin and installed. Same BSOD occured when the TrackIR was plugged into the USB hub.

Something in the system is not agreeing with the TrackIR device as it crashes my system nearly instantly each time I plug it into any USB socket. I have yet to get this to work and so want it to!

Please email back or post a suggested fix or provide me with a contact name and phone number. Thanks!!!!

I am having exactly the same problem as of last night.

It had been working ok last time i used it, 2 days ago.

Unfortunately, now, i have done a complete rebuild of my PC, as i hadn't got a clue as to what was causing the BSOD. It wasn't until i went to install the latest drivers (no issue there) and then plugged in the TrackIR that the installing new hardware message pops up an then BOOM!!... BSOD! found the culprit!

need help badly!

Cheers

Dom

further to my last post...

i notice there have been similar issues before on this forum, and moving to a different USB port sometimes fixes the problem or updating the BIOS. Since it was working ok before i don't see why i should look at updating the BIOS?

I have to say i have tried swapping ports on my external USB hub (powered) but still no joy.

I'll try one straight off the the PC tonight rather than via the hub, and see if that helps.

Have you tried the device on another system?

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Hurrah!!

seems to be working fine again.
i tried plugging directly into a USB port on the PC rather than use the hub, and it's ok again. (even using the port the hub was plugged into.)
No idea why it no longer works with the hub when it did before. Oh well, i have a nice clean pc now. Time to reinstall FSX and ArmA and have some fun with it again.

Hope you have some luck too.

Cheers
