TrackIR acting strange after a while

Dear Support,

Since a month or two I've been experiencing problems with trackir and lock on flaming cliffs (don't know about other games). TrackIr used to work fine and all, but now after a while, something like 15 - 30 mins the "in-game head" begins to move spasticly, suddenly looking to left or right and stop following the movements my own head makes (green light on the trackIR shuts too) for a few seconds. It really builds up starting with some strange thingie every 10 secs but growing towards effectivaly stop working at all...

TrackIR is a great device but 15 minutes is a bit too short for my liking, so I hope you could help me out.

My system specs:
MSI Nforce K8N Neo4
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1 gyg ram
nVidia 7950GT
Windows XP SP2

Yours,

Stormi

Have you tried the device on another system?

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Could you attach a screen shot of your Device Manager (showing USB), and tracking screen (TrackIR software -> View -> Tracking)?

To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.

Windows Help: Print Screen

To do this, follow this procedure:

1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply,

---Have you tried the device on another system?
No, and as i don't have another pc running lockon i cant for at least a week, so we have to wait for a bit if that's the problem

--Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?
I've it plugged straight into the mobo (screenshot might help at the bottom)

--Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?
Does that mean pulling all USB ports out, well I can try but then I don't have a keyboard / mouse / nothing basicly

--Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?
I just did and didnt work

--Could you attach a screen shot of your Device Manager (showing USB), and tracking screen (TrackIR software -> View -> Tracking)?

That's when I just started TrackIR

And here a screen from when I returned back to windows after the problem occured, showing a few, edited, screens of what tracking looks like apart from the normal view (displayed in the first picture), as it isn't acting weird non-stop...

Anyway, here it is,

I hope this might have helped a bit, I'll try to unplug all other usb thingies tomorrow, I want a fresh computer to test it out though, to make sure it's a good test.

Sorry for my crappy English, I hope it's readable and understandable, and thanks again for the help,

Yours,

Sven

It looks like it is only partially picking up the bottom reflector, and is jumping between another one.

1 - Try cleaning the clip itself, with warm soapy water.

2 - Have you tried moving USB ports, like one on the front of the system?

Both cleaning and moving usb ports didn't work, I'll go to a friend with it to test it on another machine tomorrow.

BTW before you intepret the images wrong; in the first picture the bottom right reflector is half red, which happens to the other reflectors too.

Personally I have the feeling it's te device itself which is the problem because there really isn't any problem for the first 5 minutes or so and everything works perfectly fine, but then it slowly grows worse and worse. Maybe it gets too hot or something, well, that's just my 2 cents anyway.

Sven

Quick update, just tested TrackIR on another system, and we encountered exactly the same problem both in lock on and fs2004... I don't know if that's good or bad news but it's news anyway.

Sven
