TrackIR Vs SmartNav

I'm interested to know how good the TrackIR 4 is for non-gaming use i.e. can it do everything the smartNav can do for mousing in standard windows applications.

Also, has anyone tried the TrackIR 4 with games like Call of Duty 4 or Unreal Tournament?

No the TrackIR 4 can not be used as a mouse replacement device (on the system desktop), like the SmartNAV product line does.

We have tested with COD4, and it currently has issues.

Ok, I see. I'll just stick with getting the SmartNav instead as my primary aim at this point is a mouse replacement.
