TrackIR not working in CFS3

Post by Eraser »

Combat Flight Simulator 3 and MAW aren't recognizing trackIR. It worked eons ago but after a break and purchasing the vector expansion, the game no longer recognizes it.

A quick search on game forums yielded known problems with vista, and on XP, problems with Logitec and Norton software. But I'm not running any of those, and I'm still on XP.

TrackIR still works fine in strike fighters/Wings over Europe/Israel/Vietnam as well as IL2 and FSX.

No, I'm actually running very little. I just did a fresh install of windows less than a month ago.

Well, I can say that its trackIR not recognizing CFS3. I alt+tabbed to see if a current game was loaded, and there was none.

No reason that it shouldn't be working in XP.

Remove the TrackIR software by doing the following:
a. Click "Start"
b. Click on the "Control Panel"
c. Click "Add/Remove Programs"
d. Find "TrackIR" and click "Change/Remove"
e. Once launched it will give the option to completely remove it.
f. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint
g. Download and reinstall the software from the following location,
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06- ... nuals.html

Done it 2 or 3 times, but without deleting the directory...going to have to find that vector serial card again though.

Didn't work, even with just dot tracking.

Whatever method TIR uses to work with CFS3 wouldn't be so sensative as to not work if its installed somewhere other than C:\program files\naturalpoint\TrackIR 4 right?

The only things I can think of is either some other hardware or software. Can you see if you can duplicate the problem having AVG 8 free and Spybot S&D up to date? Meanwhile I'll be putzing around with drivers for my CH pro throttle and USB hub(that TIR is NOT plugged into.

If its any help, I tried running the tir_attack program someone linked to here for getting cfs3 to work. It spit out this error:
"
Could not read from the process:(12b): Only part of a ReadProcessMem(the rest of the line is cut off by the output box that doesn't let you resize)
FS3 support Failed at T10
Error while poking game, aborting.

My feeble knowledge of programming tells me its trying to access memory being used by CFS3, but its only getting some of it.

Well, the TrackIR itself seems to be working with other applications, we havve tried all known issues or conflicts, any thing running on the system at all?

Any other add-ons installed for CFS3?

In the MAW install no, thats pure cfs3 3.1a + MAW and nothing else. Regular install has tons of stuff, but I haven't added anything since I last really played CFS3 while trackIR was working (about a year and a half)

It's a memory thing for sure, TIR_attack says it can't access the memory, and TrackIR itself doesn't recognize the game. I've ruled out things like AVG since there are others with the same version with no problems.

Maybe its something in windows built in security that I'm having a problem with TIR not being able to access memory? But the windows security settings only have things for firewalls and the internet, not memory. Does anyone know?
