big even jumps in rotation curves.

helloo,

many of the rotation curves in my bvh have these jumps.

the animation of the skeleton -look- all good
because the jumps are even (like jumping exactly 360 in one frame)

but the curves have those issues.. which makes editing complicated.

the first pictures shows it in softimage, the second in poser.

surprisingly in poser the problem appears only on the HIP and FEET rotations.
all other elements are good.

in softimage nearly all elements have this problem.
except the ankles (feet) and collars, shoulders (upper arms)

so it seems to be some kind of import-issue.
.. i would need to solve that in softimage as well as in poser.

any ideas or suggestions anyone ?

thanks for reading!

Can you send copies of your data files, support@naturalpoint.com, with a link to this forum as well

Artoo:

I've seen this quite a bit in Poser... and I've concluded that it is caused by the bvh import implementation that Poser uses. I can take the same bvh file and bring it in to Motionbuilder and it does not have this problem. I was not aware that XSI would do the same thing...

In poser, did you turn off the IK for the legs? that many times can fix some of this...

Do you have Motionbuilder to test in? If you send me the bvh file I can take a quick look (or Vincent can take a look too.. they have MB there also...)

hi bryan,

yes, i also think its a import problem.

motionbuilder is importing it all fine,
and via FBX i can bring it to softimage with no errors.

export via BVH from motionbuilder to poser works too.. but still results in the same first problem with the big offsets.

hmm.. at the moment i would need a little script for poser,..
something like

if hip-bend bigger 140 then substract 180,
and if hip-bend smaller -140 then add 180,
for each frame

... unfortunately i cant script at all..

Just a heads up - we have some leads on this in ARENA as well that we plan to look in to after Siggraph is over.
