hibernation/waking problem, redux

Running Windows XP Pro SP2. I read the other post about the SmartNav not being recognized after waking from hibernation, so I went to the Device Manager and disabled the power management options in all the USB root hubs. It still doesn't work after waking from hibernation...which is also why I can't test the reply to my previous post at the moment.

What OS are you using?
What version of the SmartNAV software?
Is the SmartNAV listed in the Device managerunder USB, or NaturalPOint?
Are you using a hub, or plugged directly into the PC?
What type of PC is it?

PC is a HP-Compaq dc5700, small form factor. 2 GB RAM, 2.4 GHz processors. OS is Windows XP Pro SP2. SmartNav is listed under NaturalPoint Devices in the Device Manager. It's plugged directly into a USB port in the computer, in a back port if that matters. SmartNav is a 4 AT; the software is version 3.20.035.

So is it detected at all, when coming out of hibernation?
Have you tried using an external USB hub, with it's own power supply?

There's no notification, if that's what you mean. When the PC comes out of hibernation while the program is still open, the Smartnav says "No Data" and there are no lights on the device. There is nothing on the tracking diagram in the Smartnav control panel either. If I close then reopen the program, the control panel and everything display but the result is the same: no data.
If I just give up and shut off the computer, when I turn it on again the Smartnav will come up on my screen (I set it to run on startup) and the top light will blink amber and go out. The dwell click seems to work but the device itself doesn't. The window again says "No Data" and I can't do anything until the device is reconnected/restarted. Maybe if I set the PC to never hibernate, but not sure I want to do that.
I have not tried a USB hub but I'll just have to find room for one. Are the power requirements for the Smartnav that high that the PC itself can't power it? It's a beautiful device when it works, but it would be so much easier just to plug it into a port and be done with it like anything else.

It is a device that is within USB specifications, but some motherboards do not always fully supply amperage to the USB ports properly.

The problem is decidedly not the motherboard. Will make do with the hub as the Smartnav is great when on, but also hoping for the eventual software fix.
