Does TrackClip Pro work upside-down?

I got my TrackIR/TrackClip Pro yesterday and tried it with Arma 2 and it was pretty cool. I experienced a little bit of glitchiness (lots of jumping/issues turning my head left if I wasn't positioned just right) but I'm sure I just haven't got my set up quite right yet.

To that end, one thing I noticed is that when clipped to the left side of my headset, the TrackClip is lower than the TrackIR receiver that's sitting on top of my monitor. It seems like I could remedy this easily by attaching it to the right side of my headset so that it extends up rather than down. Is there any reason that it wouldn't track as well if I do this?

I also hear the beta 5 software will help a lot, so I'm going to give that a shot tonight.

It's actually desirable to have the TrackIR camera slightly elevated compared to your TrackClip PRO. You should, though, tilt the camera down a bit so that it still has the TrackClip's markers in the center of it's view. This is a better solution than moving the clip to the right side of your headset.

Since you're using the TrackClip PRO, make sure that it's on the left side of your monitor, in line with the clip's markers. This is important for reliable tracking.

When positioning the TrackIR and the TrackClip PRO, you should have the Camera View open. It will give good feedback of what the TrackIR sees as you're adjusting it, so you can make sure that the markers are in the center of the sensor's view, there aren't other light sources behind you interfering (which would show up as red dots in the Camera View), and all three markers of the TrackClip are visible to the camera throughout the full range of your natural head motion.

If these positioning recommendations don't fully fix the glitchiness you're experiencing, make sure and let us know so we can further troubleshoot with you. The TrackIR 5's resolution is such that you should be able to have really solid tracking with essentially no smoothing (as low as 1, which is the minimum). We want you to get it dialed in for optimal performance.

Oh, and definitely give the 5.0 software a whirl!

It didn't seem to work very well upside-down so I flipped it back to normal and installed V5 beta 4 of the software and it's working perfectly now. Great stuff!
