About to buy - couple of questions

Firstly apologies if this has been covered, I did search but could not find information.

I have an old Trackir2 and am about to upgrade to Trackir 5, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate RTM version, is TIR 5 software and hardware drivers fully Win7 compliant.

Secondly my headphones won't allow the Track Clip Pro to fit, I don't want to use reflective dots, can I use infra red LED's arranged on a cap like the Track Clip with Trackir 5 camera.

Are the dimensions critical or can I place the led's each side of the peak and the centre one at the top front?

Thanks
Fred

Yes the TrackIR hardware/software have support within Windows 7

The design placement of the reflective, active, IR points are part of the ability for a single camera to track an object in a 3d enviroment.

Thanks Vincent, so I can use active infrared led's and as long as I get the positions correct then Trackir should work ok with them?

Regards
Fred

Should, but you would have to make a custom TrackClip replacing the reflectors with active IR LEDs.........

Hi Fred,

In addition to the location, you need to make sure you have the correct type of IR leds. I believe you will need 850nm for optimal tracking.

Thanks guys, the LED's I have here are 880nm but I tested them with my TIR2 and seem ok.

I've ordered the TIR5, thanks for your help.

Guys, just wanted to report back in on this.

I've been using head tracking for a year or so with another solution. I just wanted to say that I've got this setup tonight and used it with my favourite racing sim - TrackIR5 is excellent, much much better than the solution I have been using.

Thanks very much
Fred
