precision grayscale mode

I'm having some trouble understanding the precision grayscale mode as expressed in the OT SDK.

I think I see a reference to it in the header files as a frame type for the frame mask. But I see no other docs pertaining to it.

Is it simply the default mode now?

Also, what is the functional difference between constructing objects on the camera versus on the pc (Video Mode)? What are the pros and cons on the two modes?
