I've noticed that even when not being used, the Track IR head becomes slightly warm?

Is there any way to power down the unit another level without physically unplugging it?

Just concerned with component lifespan, probably not an issue.

Your unit should be safe as it does not generate any more heat than any other processing unit, such as in your computer.
