Distance of user from TrackIR

Hello:
I need your input. I want to know how far the average distance of our users is from their TrackIR or SmartNAV units. This is the distance from the dot to the front of the unit. Personally, I am at arms lenght, 22". This is for a new product that we are designing. Thanks for your help!

I'm at around 18" distance, Jim.

If I put it on my monitor (where I want it) it would be 12-14 inch's away.
But I tryed it there and it did NOT work well, so I had to move to the side next to the printer and now its 22"-24", but way off to the side which means if i turn to the right (away fr om it) it losses sight if it...

Track IR version 1 :
in the back of my head because I am sitting far away from the screen : about 70-80 centimeters , and distance from reflectors dots to TIR was too much for efficiency.
TrackIR 3 Pro :
same distance, dots on my cap, facing the screnn ... no problem : very good !!

I've tested in at a range of about 4 feet with the squares put together it works rather well.

I sit close to the unit (TIR 1) AND I have a boom extension on my headphones for the dot. I've setup the system so that I the "tracking" tab or whatever it is where you can see what the TIR sees I use about 80-90% of the area when I turn my head around as far as I like to do.
