I just received my TrackIR 5 and enjoy using it. I, however, have encountered a problem when I look up (i.e. pitch movement up) with either the TrackClip Pro or the hat TrackClip. What happens is, when I look up about 30 degrees from center, a red dot appears underneath the middle tracker of the TrackClip Pro or two red dots appear underneath the two bottom trackers of the hat TrackClip. This causes sporadic movement in-game when I move my head in the aforementioned direction. I am absolutely positive no light sources are interfering with the operation of the TrackIR sensor, and I am sitting about 2.5 feet away from the sensor with it mounted slightly to the left of the top of my monitor at eye level.
Since this issue occurs for both the TrackClip Pro and hat TrackClip, I do not believe it is a problem with either of the head sensors. Instead, I am concerned that the camera itself is damaged or is malfunctioning for some reason. I have tried using light filtering but that has not helped at all and I've tried using the sensor in other locations without any external light sources but, again, the problem persists.
Please allow me also to emphasize that, aside from 30+ degree upward pitch movement, all other movements are captured perfectly by the sensor, regardless of which head tracking device I use.
I will be happy to post screenshots of this issue later tonight once I get home. Please let me know if some of you would like me to do this in case what I have described is not clear.
Anyway, I wanted to mention this issue here on the forums in case other uses have encountered this issue or to inquire if my sensor itself is faulty. Thank you NaturalPoint and all others for your input.

This can unfortunately be a bit of a tradeoff, but with careful positioning of the camera, you can achieve the accuracy you're looking for. The higher you position the camera relative to your trackclip, the more upward movement you'll be able to achieve, however you'll begin limiting your downward movement on the same axis. You can compensate for this by moving the camera back slightly as well. If you play with the angle and distance of the camera, I'm sure you will be able to find a set up that works appropriately for you.

siefex,
Are you by any chance wearing glasses? If so, your problem sounds like the TrackIR unit is picking up the bridge between the two lens and pads right above your nose. You can try covering those reflective parts with masking tape and see if the problem still persists. Hope this helps.

Thanks for both of your comments!
I am not wearing glasses and am positive there are no other outside light sources causing this problem.
Mike, I will try positioning the camera higher. But please confirm for me just so I am sure I do not have a faulty unit - is it normal in the case of upward pitch movement for red dots to appear underneath the tracker dots when looking up at around 30 degrees? This just seems a bit shocking / odd since this does not occur with downward movement; even when downward movement starts to go outside of the camera's FOV. Thanks!

Re: TIR5 Problems with Pitch Movement
I would need to see a screen shot to be sure, but in the case of upward pitch, it is more likely that you run into the reflective dots merging due to the fact that the upper reflector will cross into the axis shared by the lower reflectors, and that would cause the TrackIR to lose it's lock on the clip.
