Tracking only works from 1" away

I just got my TrackIR and am very confused. When I run the software, I can only get the green light to come on when I hold the clip 1" away from the unit. Is it faulty and can I get a refund?

The problem was no reflective tape on the hat clip. Duh

A replacement should arrive shortly.
