trouble positioning track ir (projector user)

I am using track IR in my simulation room with a 120" screen. I sit about 10 feet from the screen and track IR doesnt work from this far away, sadly. (I sure hope a future revision does).

I put it on a tripod in front of me, about 3-4 feet away and noticed that it never works fully, I can get it to have the 3 led's light up in CAMERA mode but when looking to some extremes (upper left for example) it loses one of the dots and the camera freezes. It can still track the other two red dots however in the camera view, so why does the 3d view stop moving? Shouldn't it be able to predict where you were going and pick it up again once you have 3 dots instead of grinding to a halt?

If I adjust for this to have the camera pick up 3 dots, by moving the camera itself, then the lower right extremity is not working. I suspect this is because its designed to work on a monitor where you barely move your head to look from side to side on a smaller monitor, where as for a 120" screen I am moving my head drastically to look from one side to the other.

I want to try positioning the track IR behind me, but I have a chair back covering the part of my head where the camera would go.

Is it possible to mount the track IR on top of your head? I would like to try using some kind of a 2 inch extension rod off the top center of my headphones and then clipping the track clip pro onto that.

Any ideas??

Unfortunately no. I'll spare you the details of when I misread this and actually tested the system with the camera on my head (this does not work), but if you put the camera above your head aimed down, Roll and Yaw would become switched, as would Z and Y. There is no way to compensate for this in the software.

I would recommend maybe a sideways approach. There is a way to adjust for 90, 180, and 270 degree rotation of the camera in your profile.

Thanks -

I knew you could put the camera behind you, but are you saying you can also put it to your side and it should work fine as long as you tell the software its 90 / 270 degrees off?

Any ideas on how to mount the track clip pro to point its IR beams out your ears?
