Can't install any TIR software

Hi,
I've been using TIR 4 for more than 2 years now, and it worked just fine.
Now, today I wanted to install the latest drivers (5.1 beta3) in order to be able to run DCS: A-10 in 64bit mode. I have played in 32-bit mode with the older drivers just fine the last couple of months.
Downloaded the software, uninstalled the old one, tried to install new software but the installation always cancels with the message (I'm using German Win7 64 bit) "Error during extraction of support files. Start of server failed."
Tried to install the 5.0 final as well as the 4.1.038 to no avail. I even tried to install from my original CD, still no go.
Any ideas what went wrong here?
BTW running the installation files as admin didn't help either.
