I have recently managed to get a usable capture volume of 15x15x8 feet with Tracking Tools and using relatively large rigid bodies with markers that are at least 5-6" apart. I'm told that it is possible to have multiple groups of cameras supporting adjacent tracking volumes, and that the Tracking Tools software can configure limits to the volumes so that they do not overlap.
I'm posting this topic to request that the same feature be added to ARENA so that I can explore the feasibility of using multiple adjacent volumes to produce very large overall trackable volumes.
WIth this feature, how feasible would it be to have a square of 4x4 volumes (16 total volumes) that covers an area of 60x60 ft.
Right now I am using 4 s250e cameras to produce this 15x15x8 volume and I'm hoping to continue experimenting with the most cost-effective number of cameras needed to do full body motion capture in this size volume.
It would also be neat to be able to place some sort of distinctive marker near the user's head to help the system determine WHICH body is being tracked (to aid in supporting multiple people within each volume).
(Also, could the volumes be configured to use the same coordinate system?)
Large Capture Volumes Using Multiple Adjacent Volumes
Re: Large Capture Volumes Using Multiple Adjacent Volumes
They way we're planning to go on this with our software is to extend the camera calibration to simply calibrate large overlapping volumes just the same way that you calibrate single volumes currently. It may be completely automagic but it's possible that it might require a few additional button clicks.
This is all in addition to supporting multiple non-overlapping volumes.
