VRPN for TrackIR?

I recently learned that there is an open standard for Virtual Reality peripherals, such as head trackers [ www.vrpn.org ].

I see the Optitrack products are listed as working with this standard, but do not see the TrackIR listed. I also just searched for "VRPN" here on these forums, and all the hits were in the Optitrack forums.

Am I correct in assuming that there is no VRPN support for the TrackIR?

Hey Joe,

That's correct. VRPN is supported by us "out of the box" with OptiTrack cameras and the TrackingTools software.

If you wanted to use TrackIR with VRPN, you would need to use the TrackIR SDK and write your own "repeater" routine that received the TrackIR data, repackaged it into the VRPN format, and forwarded it to a VRPN client.

Hi Joe,

Correct, the TrackIR app does not support VRPN streaming. I believe that a few developers have created their own plugins for it, but none of those have been released for public consumption as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for the quick update. I recently picked up on my goal of getting some sort of low-cost Fishtank VR setup for my CAD station. Someday it will happen... at least I hope so.

Any updates on TrackIR compatibility with VRPN? Has anyone gone public with their solutions?

Thanks,
