Demo released - TrackIR

Post by 9./JG54_Kirin »

Greetings aces

as you may know a LOMAC demo has been "released" recently.

Good news: TrackIR enchanced works perfectly.

Bad news: panning range is very limited. In the MiG I get like 45 degrees upward - way to little to track enemies. I just hope this gets solved 'till the final!

This is my observations:

I have noticed a distance traveled by head motion that is specific to the Mouse (relative) Vs Track Ir Enhanced (absolute)

My findings are this. Mouse has plenty of Vertical axis( if i need more vertical scan i can simply raise my head position to get it, if my head has rotated on its axis taking the reflector out of view)

less percentage of Horizontal.( if i need more horizontal scan i can simply slide my head position to get it, if my head has rotated on its axis taking the reflector out of view)

In enhanced the Vertical suffers while the Horizontal is phenominal.( the head positioning trick does not work)

I think it has more to do with the exponential rates. From center to the endpoints, and or the way the TrackIR emmitter/reciever unit is set up for its FOV.

I personally would like to see an adjustable 10 point curve so that i can make adjustmants at each point Controlling distance traveled, controling my deadband area, and my accelerated (exponential curve) to the Axis Limits.

Much in the sme way i use my pitch and throttle curves in my R/C helicopter computer radio.

FYI i have the Track IR hat, and have come up with a modification that provides a more reflective target and smoother tracking.

the small dots are Great but if you increase your reflector Size, this provides more target aspect signature when getting to almost 90 Degrees, This helps in the FOV, and controlability.

I'll post my mod tommarow at Biohazcentral.

I have found that it is the programming in the LOMAC demo that gives such a lousy FOV. If you turn your settings on the TIR up to the max so they are very agressive, you still stop at the same place, regardless of how far you move your head. IT is definitly the demo.

As for the adjustable curve; you may mean something other than what I am thinking you are saying, but they already have this. You can adjust each group point individually to create any type of curve that you would like. Is this what your talking about or did you already know this and mean something different?

Thanks for the info on the hat. Do you like it? I've been thinking about getting one.

I just read that hitting CTR - right Shift opens the FOV by making the mouse speed faster.

About to go test that now....

Ah, the joys of a demo based on beta code. Ubisoft and Eagle are aware of the vertical panning issue with the trackIR, and will be fixing it for the commercial release.

Excellent news!

To confirm: Pressing CTR and right SHIFT at the same time gives you a LOT more range with TrackIR.

It is VERY noticable in the Mig-29.

I have been unable to get TrackIR to work in the LOMAC demo so far. I'm working fine in Forgotten Battles using enhanced mode but can't seem to get it working in LOMAC.

I imagine I must be missing something painfully obvious. Would anyone care to help enlighten me? I'm running TrackIR 2.12.

Thanks,

Gwen

Few things you have to check in the demo to make it work.

1: Setup TrackIR just like you would prior to starting FB.

2. Start LOMAC Demo and go into the settings.

3. Under the COCKPIT area of setup, make sure COCKPIT MOUSE is turned on.

4. Enter one of the aircraft and unpause TIR and it should work fine.

5. If you find your FOV limited, press CTR-(right)SHIFT and it should speed you up and give you more FOV.

Thanks for the info on the hat. Do you like it? I've been thinking about getting one.Actually I do not use the Demo i have Betas of Lomac

My findings are exactly what i have stated with builds higher than the level the demo is at.

I'll have to speak to Carl and Matt on this on Monday.

I like the Hat it works pretty good, and its stylen. One of the best hats i have owned. they picked a good hat maker.

I've been testing my own ideas on the reflector target.
