Folks-
For the next version of the trackIR software we are hoping to put the view limitations questions to rest. So We would like to ask our users what they would prefer:
Keep current restrictions (version 2.01) in IL-2 FB.
Allow the user to move 180 degrees back and 90 degrees up and down.
Note that neither option is the same as what we had in 2.0, which had no view restrictions at all (you could spin around indefinitely).
This poll will close on July 1st.

If the 180 thing is voted down I'll continue to use the 2.0 version, why waste the art work by not looking at it? I agree if Oleg patches it so it wont work I'll use the latest drivers. But I feel that he should just give us the view for everyone. He did the art work for it. The only real advantage is if your the type to play in HUD mode. In cockpit mode it really has no signifigant advantage. Like the other poster stated you can twist your shoulders and with perifial vision get the same view in real life. The back of your seat/fuselage area. Heck I see the guy shooting my six all the time seldome the other way around. LOL
The fellow etwas below wants other versions of software. Mine came with 2.0 on the disc I purchased mine 3 months ago. Look at my profile then go to my web page and fill out the how to join page with your email you dont have to join just send it so ill have your email and ill will contact you on the drivers 2.0 version.
I think this is more about keeping a level playing field for the online gamers (although as you point out, for those that want unrestricted movement there are always the older drivers).
I'm definitely for keeping current view restrictions in FB - I bought TrackIR for immersive realism which it delivers flawlessly. Giving myself an unrealistic cockpit view seems to defeat the point.
I can see that it would be reasonable to expect such motion in external views, where enabled, but I'm not sure if that's a distinction that could possibly be written into driver software. I'm thinking probably not.
I am actually very suprised at the 50/50 on the poll atm. When I voted (for restrictive view) earlier out of 11 or so votes 9 were for restrictive view.. Does the poll log IP numbers?
I'm all for immersion and could care less if I have an extra 0.003% advantage when playing online.
In real life a pilot could twist his shoulders to see 180 degrees out the back just like you and I can in a car. There are too many other factors involved which restrict view as it is.
However, I don't think I'd really care if the view is restricted or not, I might like it even better personally once I give it a try, who knows but trying to write off 180 as any real advantage seems a bit silly to me. I'm more interested in drivers that will save my settings properly.
Either way, the issue is a bit overblown imho but go ahead and do what you wish, I'll enjoy my game either way.
Just put a radio toggle in there to switch on/off Linda Blair view, you might as well since anyone bent on using 180 will just use older drivers. If Oleg thinks it's important he'll write it into a patch I'm sure.
I prefer the limited view most of all to keep the playing field equal in multiplayer games. However, I also found the unrestricted views slightly disorienting.
I suggest making it an option AND providing an easy way for game makers to disable the feature if they want to impose limits in their games. This way people could use any view they want for single player and game makers could disable the feature for example in multiplayer games. this has to be easy to implemet, however, and I suggest not putting the feature in a driver until people who make the games get a chance to implement possible limitations in their games.

The current limitations are as they should be; there isn't a cockpit in the world where you can look directly behind you without yawing the plane, at least a bit.

Quick question: how does option #2 differ from 2.0? I don't like the hyper-restricted view of IL-2 but I don't particularly enjoy Linda Blair view either, esp. the wacky Y-axis behaviour.#2 would remove 2.01's restrictions but not allow 'Linda Blair' head spinning. Note that Oleg could still choose to restrict the views in a future version of IL-2 FB
