I am using a cockpit rig which makes it convenient to position my sensor below my TFT screen. However, whilst flying Rowan's Battle of Britain, I find I have to continually re-centre.
I didn't have any problems when the sensor was sat on top of a VDU. Unfortunately I can't readily see a way to fix the sensor on the top of my Samsung SyncMaster 192T.
Any body else find this problem? In theory, it shouldn't matter where you position the sensor.
Position of sensor
Re: Position of sensor
Thanks, Donald.
Radio Shack seems to be the place but out here in the styx, it's like trying to visit Mars!
I've used industrial velcro pads instead. TrackIR definitely works better when the sensor is fitted to the top of the screen, i.e. as near to eye-level as possible.

Re: Position of sensor
Hello Borton,
Position yourself as if you were going to get started playing the game. Make sure you have a dot on and then start the TrackIR software. Go to the Tracking screen. The left side of the screen should be black with a splotch visible that represents your dot. Based on the color of the splotch, the camera will be tracking this. Now adjust the camera angle so that the splotch has now moved to almost the center of the black area. Move your head around normally. Does the splotch always stay green? If not, then at some point during your range of motion, the camera is losing focus. I would guess this would occur when you look up, based on how you described the position of the camera.
I would recommend that you get a basebal style hat, either from us or use one of your own, then take one of the big square dots and fold it over the end of the bill. This way you can look up and down and the camera will still have something to focus on because it will be able to see the part of the reflective material that is folded on the underside of the bill.
Here are a few tips for mounting the camera on flat panel monitors.
Go down to Radio Shack and get a package of Telephone Wire Clips. These clips will fit over the feet of the base very tightly and they can be mounted right to the top of the flat panel and will hold the base just fine.
The other option, which I like better is to mount the clips sideways on the back of the monitor. Remove the big rubber feet and slide the base into the slots. The camera will be positioned such that it will be peering over the top of the monitor. I think this setup looks better, because you don't see the clips and camera is not as conspicuous.
Hope this helps,
Donald
