Track IR2...Shall I return it?

Post by Midnight »

I have had TrackIR2 for 2 weeks now. I have tried various profiles/using caps/and making booms with balls attached and I just cant seem to get an enjoyable experience from this product. I have tried various smoothing settings and always I get eratic movements. I want to experience smooth and slow movement from left to right and up and down(similar to using the hat switch). I find it quite shaky and stuttery and sometimes it appears to miss frames.I also find the slightest head movement (ie:1cm) translates to a large movement on screen and therefor I find it hard to read anything in the cockpit.I'm sure if anyone can help me get the satisfaction I'm looking for it will come from someone on these forums. I really want this product to work.
Many Thanks Guys

Midnight I will help you out , first off what game/s are you playing that you are haveing trouble with.

Would you be willing to email me a copy of your profile so I can look at it. ??

Are you moveing around a lot on your chair, remember most PC users have a office type chair with castors on and you dont notice how much you actually move on that chair while playing games untill you get a product like Track IR, for it too work best you really need a good still chair as any movmnet there will translate into movment in your body head and that will make the track ir track it.

Where is the Track IR unit, is it on top of your moniter, is it level or above or below the dot, what sort of distance is the dot/cap from the unit.

Hotdognz and Wayne

First of all guys I want to say thank you very much for your offer of support. Its very much appreciated as I do believe in this product and so I am determined to get it running to its potential.

Hotdognz

I would be happy to send you an email.
I mainly play Lomac and IL-2.
I have placed in a zip file some pics I have taken of my rig with the track ir2 sitting on top of my monitor.
I adjust my seat so that the dots are level with the track ir2.
I have tried placing a reflective square on my forehead as well as placing some on the brim of my cap. As you can see I have also made a sort of boom using an aligator clip with a ping pong ball attached that works ok but I think it may have a bit to much movement.
My chair is very stable and does not move at all.
I have also placed in the zip file some profiles I am using. As well as these I have used profiles
- Lomac_777_Burnin_AVG
- IL2FB_777_Burnin_AVG
- IL2FB_Charlie
- Lomac_Charlie
- Lomac_mikehancock
- IL2FB_Charvel

If I make a profile for eg: 0-0-0-1-3-5-7-9 do I need to apply these setting for x axis and apply the same setting for the y axis?...I'm a little confused here.

Many Thanks Again Guys
Regards
Midnight

P.S I have sent you the email already

Midnight can you send me a email to hotdognz@gotadsl.co.uk as the one to my freeuk account didnt have the zip with it for some unknow reason.

As for the settings if you see the little chain link in the Motion tab and its not broken then you are applying the profile for both the X & Y axis, if you click on the chain link you can unlock it (it turns from blue to grey and you will be editing the Axis that is clicked blue.

So to cap

Blue linked chain = edit both X & Y axis
Grey unlinked chain = edit axis that is clicked blue.

Midnight I recived your email thanks.

Ok first up we need to sort your dots out, you have way too many . Using the hat remove 3 dots on either side of the brim so you are left with the square on the brim and 2 dots of the tracking material, move the 2 dots you have left and put them overlapping the square by about 2mm.

Now sit at your desk and open Track IR program, open the motion page and you should see the green tracking as you can see in the pic im emailing you, it will be long a narrow. Ignorew the fact you have a bigger screen than me im beta testing softwear so its slightly diffrent in my view. Also set any sliders on that tab the same as my pic. Look L & R and you should see the geen object reduce in size the more you look L & R but it should not vanish. If you have any other stuff showing on that screen like RED/YELLOW objects you are haveing trouble with external light hitting your TIR sensor on top of your moniter.

Ok next up load the IL2 FB profile im sending you in the zip called IL2FB_HD.tir, jump into IL2 FB and get in the virtual cockpit and look L & R and U & D, any better ??

Your computer setup is the same as mine, im sitting at a desk just like yours and I dont have any promblems at all.

Im away tommorow untill Sunday, ill check back here then.

Hello Midnight,

I have just received your e-mail and I have to agree with Hotdognz... there are far too may dots and the camera is very confused.

Also try just one single dot on your head, just to cofirm that the unit is tracking correctly.

If you follow Hotdognz's recommendations then you should be fine.

Hi Mate
Hope you had a good weekend. I tried your suggestions..removing dots etc. Its seem to be a bit better but I'm still not satisfied with the smoothness. Its ok from the 12 to 2 oclock position and 12 to 10 oclock but past these points it seems sticky. I also quite often get a severe stuttering affect....I re-centre using F12 and it works ok but only for about a min or so and then the stuttering returns.
Thanks for your help mate.

P.S Any suggestions for a lomac profile other than those in the download section...I'm not to happy with them either.

Cheers
Midnight
